Not sure what this really amounts to.

…the US Department of Commerce (DoC) has made it clear it intends to retain control of the internet’s root servers indefinitely. It was due to relinquish that control in September 2006, when its contract with overseeing body ICANN ended.

Is there an advantage in this? Is this act of hubris, sure to tick off the rest of the world, worth the potential consequences?

    I don’t have a problem with the US doing this, but the way they said the presentation went it sounded like Bush’s policies have made the internet safe. Sounds weird to me.
