Fred Thompson Is Done

He’s running 3rd in South Carolina today, and this is where he HAD to win. I don’t care what his campaign says below about finishing a strong 2nd. He had to win in order to get any major bump for the next contests.

Now his campaign hasn’t explicitly said he’s out, but they’re already making gestures it will be announced soon…

(CNN) — After a weak showing in the South Carolina primary, Fred Thompson gave a wistful speech to supporters, telling them “we’ll always stand strong together.” […]

While he remains in the race, two sources told CNN that “it was abundantly evident to all of us” that the bar was a win or a very competitive second place in South Carolina to continue to be viable in the GOP presidential race. […]

“We are not blind to the obvious,” said one senior campaign adviser.

And so ends the awful campaign of Fred Thompson. A guy who didn’t ever appear to want the job of President and the voters took note. This also probably marks the end of his political career too, so say goodbye to Fred the candidate and look for Fred the actor to pop up on a television screen near you sometime in the future.

Oh, Duncan “Who?” Hunter dropped out too.

How could have Thompson proved he wanted the job? Maybe he could have held his breath until people voted for him or stood on his head. Yeah his awful campaign of refusing to pander and focusing on the issues did him in because it turns out that the majority of my fellow Republicans are dingbats that can’t distinguish conservatism from liberalism or populism.

I’ve always seen Thompson as a poor old hibernating bear that someone prematurely dragged from his cave. Ben Stein could have mustered more vim, vigor, and vitality.
