Is Palin Asking Stevens To Step Down?

I found Palin’s response today to one of the biggest ethics scandal in her state to be pretty clear code for “Get lost old man.”

Here’s what she said…

“The verdict shines a light on the corrupting influence of the big oil service company that was allowed to control too much of our state. It was part of the culture of corruption I was elected to fight. And that fight must always move forward regardless of party or seniority or even past service.”

“As Governor of the State of Alaska, I will carefully monitor this situation and take any appropriate action as needed. In the meantime, I ask the people of Alaska to join me in respecting the workings of our judicial system.”

“I’m confident Senator Stevens will do what’s right for the people of Alaska.”

It’s that last part that has me intrigued.

Because “do what’s right for the people of Alaska” sure sounds like, “Resign or I will embarrass you before you embarrass us any more than you already have.”

What do you think? She telling Stevens to take a hike in not so many words?

Of course, she may not have a lot of leverage after TrooperGate.

We shall see…

It sounds like she’s talking out of both sides of her mouth to me.

She’s fought against oil companies. OK. But, she also wants to drill for oil wherever she can find it. OK.

Sure, she’s telling him to get lost but she herself doesn’t have a lot of room to talk. She also probably sees a potential opening to further her career.

She may be upset that he pushed for an accelerated trial and has no been found guilty, depriving her of the ability to appoint a successor if he had won reelection then been convicted. In that scenario she gets to appoint herself to the senate. Now the seat will go dem adding to the chance that 60 is reached or at the very least insuring lieberman is booted from the party.
