Stevens: “I Am Innocent”

Stevens: “I Am Innocent”

Well, looks like he’s going to fight the conviction, but his claim of prosecutorial misconduct seems rather weak. I mean, Ted, the prosecutors didn’t remodel your home and put all that furniture in your house for free.

In any event, from Stevens website comes the following statement…

“I am obviously disappointed in the verdict but not surprised given the repeated instances of prosecutorial misconduct in this case. The prosecutors had to report themselves to the Justice Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility during the trial for ethical violations. Exculpatory evidence was hidden from my lawyers. A witness was kept from us and then sent back to Alaska. The Government lawyers allowed evidence to be introduced that they knew was false. I will fight this unjust verdict with every ounce of energy I have.

I am innocent. This verdict is the result of the unconscionable manner in which the Justice Department lawyers conducted this trial. I ask that Alaskans and my Senate colleagues stand with me as I pursue my rights. I remain a candidate for the United States Senate.”

One last note…I bet Palin doesn’t appreciate Stevens using her picture on the front page of his site…

Maybe that’s why she was hinting that he shove off today?

More as it develops…

Hold the bus! Isn’t the Department of Justice he is complaining about the same institution that the Bush administration packed with Republican cronies under Alberto Gonzales? The guys own buddy who did all the work on his home testified that he intentionally ignored Steven’s requests for bills because it was understood that this was just his way of “covering his a–“. Throw da bum out!

But wait yet again! The guy who did all the work got a reduced sentence for testifying against Stevens. Maybe by doing work unknown to Stevens was his way of covering his own backside. Maybe something he could try to coerce the Senator with in the future???? Stevens may well have been framed. Are you going to know the costs of items included in construction? You have to trust the contractor that bills you. As far as I heard Stevens produced canceled checks for $160,000. Yep, framed. If you are already a crook and they will reduce your sentence for turning in other evidence, couldn’t he make some up to get a few years off jail time? Not a credible witness. Now we hear evidence was kept back that could have helped the defense. Yep, framed!
