Just two weeks shy of opening night, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities has announced the final line-up for the 6th Annual Dance DC Festival.
From August 28th to 30th, arts aficionados will be able to explore the best of local and international dance with more than fifty free performances at a varied list of venues that includes the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, the National Zoo, the National Museum of the American Indian, U Street jazz mainstay, Bohemian Caverns and H Street’s Atlas Performing Arts Theatre – just to name a few.
While there will be a plethora of performers from Latin America, West Africa, India and the South Pacific, DC is pitching in a one-off show of its own homegrown music/dance movement, go-go, to represent the USA. The genre’s founding father (and DC royalty), Chuck Brown, apparently isn’t available, so DJ Rane of WPGC 95.5 will officiate instead. Either way, we’ll wager that “Bustin’ Loose” is bound to make an appearance at one point or another and that beats a night of Bollywood any day.
