Canstruction, a non-profit organization committed to ending world hunger, disguises itself as a uniquely awesome design competition that pits architects, engineers and students against one another to see who can build the best larger-than-life sculpture entirely out of canned foods. Designs range from dinosaurs, to the Emerald City, to the Angel’s Stadium.
Teams are given months to prepare but only 12 hours to erect their structures out of thousands of cans of food. At the end of which, all cans used are donated to local food banks for distribution to those who need them most.
Competitions are held all over the world and in many major US cities. With 140 competitions scheduled for this year you can easily locate your nearest event using their nifty city finder to get involved. Participate in a myriad of ways, from competing to simply spectating, though you’ll need to bring a can of your own for the judging event if you choose the latter. There are also a handful of volunteer positions available for assisting at exhibits and events.
However you want to contribute you can rest easy knowing you’ve helped fill the bellies of children and others in need.
“It starts with one can. To feed the hungry. To lift the spirit. To change the world.â€
