In a recent interview with Spinner, guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering discussed the possible future of the band, fresh off their highly-buzzed ‘Doolittle’ tour. The two (sans frontman Frank Black and bassist Kelly Deal) were reluctant to admit that an album is actually in the works, but they didn’t condemn fans to a Pixies-less future. “That talk about making a record will be in the forefront next because it’ll be time, you know. It’ll be time. We’ve definitely gelled as a unit and hopefully when we can all bury the hatchet — and we have — maybe we’ll go in there and hope for the best.”
It’s no shock that Pixies fans are clamoring for a new record – countless soundtracks featuring ‘Where Is My Mind?’ can attest to that. A more notable fan pushing for new material might actually influence the band to do so – U2 frontman and philanthropist extraordinaire Bono: “Please make a record! Goddamn, we can’t leave that unturned. That would frustrate me. It would.”
Would you be interested in new Pixies material? Time will tell whether or not this is an empty rumor. C’mon, guys, you wouldn’t want to disappoint Bono, would you?
