A while back, on the suggestion of a friend, I hit up John Strachan of The Funeral Pyre and asked him if he’d be down to pen a regular column for Gun Shy Assassin. For some reason, he agreed. It’s called John Strachan’s Doomed, and we’re proud to have him join the GSA squad. Check back for future installments, and read on…because John wants to hear from you.
So, it took me a long time to actually get around to writing a guest column on this site. I had agreed to doing it a long time ago, but the way life works, sometimes you find time and sometimes…well, you just seem to be a bit apathetic.
So after sitting on this for honestly six months, I still couldn’t come up with any type of good article. I guess I’m just out of words for the time being. Not really sure why, because I feel like I have more than enough to say. But for those of you who read this site and have honestly no idea who I am — which is probably most of you — I sing in two bands: The Funeral Pyre and Early Graves.
I recently joined Early Graves, after the passing of their singer and great friend, Makh Daniels. It’s been intense taking over those duties for him, but it’s also been something that has kind of revitalized me in music.
Either way, back to this article: I still had no clue what to write about. I don’t really want this to be something where I bitch and moan and at the moment, I don’t really have the greatest stories to tell. So what I want to do is offer the opportunity for people to ask any questions.
Both bands I play in come from a DIY-style of touring. Neither have really done a big tour; we spend most of our time playing squats, basements and whatever youth centers will let us.
So…I guess what I’m really saying is, let’s make this an interactive blog.
Ask questions, or just make fun of me in the comments section. Either way, I’m sure what you will say will somehow spark my imagination or some column ideas, and then I can start writing a more purposeful piece for you all to enjoy.
Let’s get started. Go on, don’t be afraid.
