You know, the year before Chi Cheng’s life was forever altered in a car crash, a tour bus accident did the very same thing to Decapitated frontman Adrian “Covan” Kowanek while also claiming the life of drummer Witold “Vitek” Kieltyka.
Yet, Covan’s situation hasn’t gotten as much attention.
Following the crash, Covan went under the knife, and his surgery was declared “successful.” A 36-hour pharmacological coma ended with Covan suffering a cardiac arrest and diffuse cerebral hypoxia — which is basically brain damage caused by depleted oxygen levels in the blood.
It is alleged that Covan was the victim of medical negligence; after six months of treatment, Covan returned home in late 2008 and has since made vast improvements. Alas, Covan is still unable to communicate and care for himself and requires 24-hour care.
In January, the “Covan Wake The Fuck Up Tour” was staged with over 33 bands. All proceeds went to Covan’s treatment.
Now, there is a DVD documentary about Covan and that tour; it will be available for purchase the last quarter of this year.
All proceeds from the disc sales will go to cover Covan’s care. The DVD will include footage of the January 28 concert at the club Kwadrat in Krakow as well as a documentary and other bonus features.
Here’s a trail for the DVD.
