Dig Origin and Decapitated?
Well then, head to the end of this post, where you will hear truly excellent new music from Oklahoma City’s own Dischordia.
The band’s debut LP, Project 19, will be released on July 23 by Rogue Records America.
We also sent the band some questions to answer, and Dischordia’s responses follow.
What’s the scene like where you reside?
The metal scene in OKC, like most across the nation we imagine, is a little “clickish” but is very good to us overall. We had a great homecoming show last month after being out on the road for 3 weeks. The scene knows how to come together in a time of need. We’ve seen several benefit concerts put together to help the survivors of the May tornadoes.
Who were your chief influences?
Musically, each of us have an array of influences ranging from Beethoven to Emperor to Depeche Mode. As a band we all find common ground with Meshuggah, Decapitated, Between the Buried and Me, and Dillinger Escape Plan. We also love The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King.
Ghost: Worth the hype or overblown?
Turner says overblown, Keeno says they’re a solid band, Josh says overblown but a legit take on older, simpler metal.
What’s your go-to record?
That is a tough question, and probably changes on a weekly basis for the bulk of us but I (drummer josh) would say Catch 33, but as a band our go to album is The Negation by Decapitated.
What do you guys have coming up tour-wise?
We just wrapped up a three-week stint out East. That was a blast. We have a lot of weekend regional runs (OK, KS, TX, and NM) coming up. We are also planning a tour out West this Winter.
What are some bands you feel my site’s readers would benefit from knowing? Who would you suggest we listen to?
Aside from the influences we listed earlier, we’d probably have some individual suggestions.
Turner: Evan Brewer’s (the bassist for The Faceless) side project, Extol, Escher, Dredg, Thrice, and Tom Waits.
Keeno: Steven Wilson, Muse, Alice in Chains, Deftones, Opeth, Soilwork, and many others.
Josh: Torn the Fuck Apart, Escher, Brea, Broken Flesh, and Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters.
Who is an author we should check out?
Stephen King, Mark Danielewski, Henry Rollins, and Richard Matheson (RIP).
