ReTweet.com sells for $250,000
ReTweet.com, a site built around tracking popular stories on the microblogging service Twitter, sold today to an unknown buyer for $250,000.
Last month ReTweet.com was put for sale on auction service Flippa, a site dedicated to auctioning off domain names and sites, for a 30-day auction. Within under 24 hours to go, and with a price over $200,000, someone stepped in and used the buy it now option to purchase the site for $250,000. The buyer is unknown at this time, and as of this writing, the site was still functioning with no discernible changes.
There had been some question over the legalities of the site as Twitter was seeking to trademark the term “ReTweet”, which would bring ownership of the domain name into question. There is every chance that Twitter itself was the last minute buyer, but that is unknown at this time.
Whatever the future of the site may be, congrats to the founders on their successful auction.
