After 74 days, only 135,000 Google Nexus One phones sold
It seems that Google may be the champion when it comes to search engines and other online products, but apparently when it comes to selling cell phones, they can’t quite beat even other phones that carry the same operating system.
According to just released numbers, in the first 74 days of its release, the Google Nexus One has sold a stunningly low 135,000 handsets. To put that into perspective, the original iPhone sold one million units in the same time period.
While it’s easy for some pundits to laugh that off due to it being the long awaited Apple phone back in 2007, it’s hard to laugh off the 1.05 million Motorola’s Droid, a phone running the exact same Android operating system, selling 1.05 million in the same time period over just the past few months.
If Google can’t move a significant number of handsets, this doesn’t bode well for the rumored netbooks and tablets it wants to sell with the Chrome OS in the not so distant future.
