PDF error reveals how many users Google Voice has
Google learned a valuable lesson today about always making sure your PDF documents are always properly formatted, otherwise you may reveal more about your operations than you intended.
In the continuing investigation of Google’s phone routing service, Google Voice, by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), it seems that the search giant submitted an improperly formatted PDF that revealed proprietary information to the public.
According to Business Week, the document, which has now been replaced with a corrected one, revealed that Google Voice has 1.419 million users, a full 570,000 of which use the service seven days a week. An impressive number that is impressive by any measure but made even more so by the fact the service is still invitation only.
The document also revealed that Google is looking to expand the service outside of the United States, but no mention was made of what countries the company is currently looking at.
