Samsung Digimax i6
By Staff reporters
The Samsung Digimax i6 has it all. It is a compact digital camera that also plays movies and MP3s to boot. A portable media player that also takes great pictures? Now we’ve heard it all…

It’s a beautiful day and you are out enjoying some sunshine in a local park. There you are, relaxing and watching the latest film on a handheld screen. The movie ends, boy wins girl and all is well in the world. Theme credits rise on the screen, and you suddenly feel like listening to some music. You simply turn the movie off and open to your favourite MP3 collection. Suddenly, your children start playing together in the late afternoon sun. It’s a moment you need to capture. While still in the middle of your favourite song, you raise your camera to your eye and zoom in. Suddenly you have a beautiful moment captured in high quality digital – and you did it all with one small piece of equipment – the Samsung Digimax i6.
In essence, the Samsung Digimax i6 is a 6 megapixel compact digital camera. But, it’s also the world’s first piece of convergence technology that incorporates not only a 6 megapixel camera, but also a handheld movie player and MP3 player as well. It is a PMP – a portable media player – a ‘3 in 1′. Its unique Wave design fits beautifully in the hand and because it’s only 18.5mm thick it fits beautifully into your pocket or handbag. It is the truly portable PMP and camera that makes it all so easy.
As a camera, it is loaded with the features and benefits you would expect from a quality 6 megapixel compact camera. Images are captured on either SD or MMC cards and being 6 megapixels, quality enlargements can be made from your favourite pictures with ease. Also, the Digimax i6 has a 3x optical zoom so you can get that little bit closer, filling the frame with what’s important. It also has 11 shooting modes for each an every photography situation plus video capture in Mpeg4.
You can shoot movies at 30 frames per second and then edit them in the camera. More than that, it has ASR, or Advanced Shake Reduction meaning that you can use it to take sharper pictures in natural indoor light and darker conditions without flash. For close-ups, the Digimax i6 also allows you to take pictures as close as 1cm using the camera’s super macro mode.
Its large 2.5 inch screen is great not only for reviewing your photographs and setting up your shooting menus, but it is sharp and large enough to enjoy your favourite movies too. The Samsung Digimax i6 comes with software that allows you to convert your movies to the format for the camera’s player and headphones that allow you to hear it all loud and clear.
It is powered by a rechargeable battery and the camera sits comfortably in its cradle to charge and transfer images to your computer. The Samsung Digimax i6 retails in Australia for only $549.00 RRP. That’s what you pay for a camera…let alone a portable movie and MP3 player.

A camera with an MP3! I can see how this can be appealing especially to the younger ages. Small too
