Google’s free wordprocessor

By Staff reporters

Ever heard of Writely? They created a web based and free wordprocessor a little while back, and then bam – they were bought by Google, and they closed the beta program.

Now Writely (still in beta) is back, and it even has a ‘beta meter’ to show how complete the beta work is – a great idea in a world where everything seems to be in perpetual beta these days. I’ve always thought butter was better, but perpetual beta sure ain’t.

But that is no way means Writely is a bad or broken product – indeed, it is quite the opposite! While it’s nowhere near as feature packed as Microsoft Word, it can certainly handle all kinds of everyday wordprocessing tasks, and it even creates files compatible with standard Microsoft Word .DOC files. You can even make PDFs without needing any software from Adobe. Great stuff!

Want to try it out for yourself? Go to www.writely.com and see what you think! :-)
