1080p plasma TV launched

Pioneer last week launched the world’s first 50 inch plasma TV capable of displaying 1080p video, while this week Hitachi launched the world’s first 42 inch plasma with 1080p resolution. More info on these two screens soon.

World’s largest LCD TV

Samsung has exhibited the world’s largest LCD television at 70 inches, eclipsing Sharp who, in 2004, produced the world’s first 65 inch LCD TV. Samsung expects to go into production in mid 2007. As expected, it has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 progessive, or 1080p, the ‘best’ high definition (HD) standard available today.

Microsoft’s yearly developer conference, training, testing and partner exhibition, Tech Ed, starts today at Sydney’s Darling Harbour. Looking forward to this morning’s keynote, where we’ll hear Microsoft’s direction and vision for the future. No doubt we’ll see plenty of Vista and Office, along with networking, server, programming, virtualisation, security and other solutions.

Larger screen for iPod

Speculation is rife that the next iPod will feature a larger screen, wireless features of either Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or both, and even an iPod smartphone that would herald Apple’s true entry into the world of mobile communications. But Apple’s secrecy when releasing new products is well known, so it comes as a surprise to read a report that Apple are not going to include Wi-Fi in their next iPod. They didn’t mention Bluetooth, for which there are many cool headsets out today that can handle music and phone calls, so while that is likely, and unconfirmed, Apple did say to the effect that iPods were better for music than video… and then released the hugely successful iPod Video 5th Generation!
