Upgrading from XP to Vista RC1

By Staff reporters

Upgrading your operating system from an older one to a new one is always an interesting experience. Paul Thurrott shares his experiences by bravely upgrading a fully loaded XP system to the new Vista RC1… And yes, did he back up first!

Convential wisdom always states that you should do a clean install of your OS for the ‘best experience’. But when you have years of data on a computer, and you want everything to be already installed when you use the new OS, upgrading is the way to achieve this. Thurrott’s experiences are quite positive, with a few niggles here and there which aren’t too surprising consider this is still a test version of Windows Vista. It makes for an interesting read, and foreshadows that (hopefully!) users who upgrade their older XP systems to Vista will have a smooth ride.
