Windows Vista RC1 and Office 2007

By Staff reporters

I’ve now been running Windows Vista RC1 and the Office 2007 Beta 2 “Technical Refresh”, which is a like a service pack for Office 2007 even though it’s still in beta.

This is what my new desktop looks like… Aero works fine!

So far, everything is running smoothly, and I’m dreading the trip back into the world of Windows XP – already! I’ve only been running the system a few hours, and I don’t want to go back. :-) The new ‘Aero’ graphics are working wonderfully too, which is a pleasant surprise!

Should you try the same thing? If you have a relatively new system, and have plenty of hard disk space, and have everything backed up, and are prepared to download gigabytes of software, are prepared to wait for the DVDs to arrive in the post (after  ordering them) or can get a copy from friends and a licence key from Microsoft’s website, and are willing to go through all of this, it’s prownbably worth trying out.

But if you don’t, or you rely on your computer for getting real work done every day, don’t do it just yet. The ‘final’ release versions will be out soon enough – as will the patches and security updates that will inevitably follow. But so far, I’m looking forward to using the new Windows and Office every day. More reports on how it’s all going, and what problems and successes I have will come in future blog reports. See you in the next post!
