Xbox 360 graphics better than PS3?

A visual comparison of the Ridge Racer game for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 shows that the Xbox 360’s version looks better and is more detailed than on the PS3. Should Sony be worried?
While we’re yet to play with or even see a PS3 in Australia, reports from PS3 owners are just starting to filter their way to the web, with plenty of reviews and head-to-head comparisons yet to come.
Our final judgement is being reserved until we get some hands-on PS3 action for ourselves, but at least one game available for both platforms looks far better on the Xbox 360 than it does on the PS3. The game? Ridge Racer.
Available as Ridge Racer 6 for the Xbox 360 and Ridge Racer 7 for the PS3, the PS3 version is said to run very fast, with an improved online gameplay experience over the Xbox 360 version.
But if you take a look at the side-by-side comparison of the graphics at the GameBrink.com website, the Xbox 360 version, even though released earlier than the PS3 version (which has really only been available for the past couple of days), has better, darker colours, with more detail in the road surface and in on screen graphics.
Update: It seems the volume of traffic this site has had sent to it from multiple sources on the Internet, including this article, has caused GameBrink.com’s site to crash. For anyone expecting the PS3 to simply have better graphics right out of the box for the latest games, this must come as somewhat of a shock.
Part of the reason is that which we covered earlier is more developers have had more time with the Xbox 360 and simply know how to program it better. The Xbox 360 is also known to be a much easier games console to develop for than the PS3, which some developers have described as a much harder system to develop new games for.
This is because the PS3 has a radically new processor inside which will take developers time to learn to fully harness the power of, and when they do, the Xbox 360 had better look out; although Xbox 360 games development and graphics advances will hardly be standing still, waiting for a PS3 knockout, there’ll be graphical advancements on the Xbox 360 too.
Of course, reports of the amazing quality of graphics in other PS3 games, especially with the realism of sports titles, are emerging too. However this was also said of the Xbox 360 when it launched, so we’d expect nothing less from the PS3.
The next-gen war doesn’t just amount to who has the better specs, for no matter what you’re given, you can push a games console to its limits if you only know how. One need only compare PS2 games from the 1st of its existence to the PS2 games available today.
While they’re not a patch on the graphical quality of the Xbox 360 or the PS3, they’re far advanced over the very first games to have appeared on the PS2 console.
And then there’s the Wii. Capable of amazing graphics all its own, it certainly beats the PS2 in graphical power, but just doesn’t look as good as the Xbox 360 or the PS3 does.
And while gamers are always clamoring for the most realistic graphics, whether it be on the PC, the Xbox 360 or the PS3, let’s not forget that some of the most popular and oft-played games of all time, from Space Invaders to Pac-man to Tetris and more, had graphics so basic as to be hilariously laughable by today’s standards, yet captured the imagination of millions around the globe.
Clearly, great gameplay and great graphics will always go well together. But give me a choice between a fantastically absorbing and enjoyable game with good enough graphics, and a graphical tour-de-force with mediocre gameplay, and I know which one I’ll chose.
It’s just like the movies. We all know about brand new “blockbuster-to-be” movies with a stellar cast that bombs at the box office because the story and plot were lacking, proving that big-name stars aren’t enough to save a bad movie from derision and scorn. If the big-name stars in bad movies are the equivalent of great graphics in a mediocre game, then you know exactly what I mean.
The next-gen race isn’t just about the greatest specs. It’s about who delivers the most consistently high quality gaming experience, along with all the other functions that the latest games consoles offer, from online gaming experiences to surfing the web on your TV and much more.
So, with the PS3 barely out the door in severely limited numbers, and the Wii still yet to launch as this article is written, the fairytale (or otherwise) ending to the battle of the next-gen consoles is still yet to be played out.

you cannot compare them because xbox is in the second year of developing games and has leanrnt how to handle and harness the power but sony hasn’t yet been able to do that because it has only just been released! If you want a comparison then compare some of the first 360 games to some of the first PS3 games. But in my mind the 360 wins no dout the texture, lightnig and anti-aliasing is a lot better.

Yah im a little sick of all these people talking about the cell and how amazing it is its all bul#$$% if you look at the ps2’s architecture it was designed almost exactly the same as the ps2. Whats funny is that the same hype about the ps3 occurred with the ps2 about the floating point performance and all that rot. If you look back at the ps2’s floating point performance it was twice that of the original x box but whose graphic were better hmmm? but serieusly, The graphics may be better but since ps3 games use blu-ray which can store up to 25GB and with the Dual-layer 50 GB it mean that ps3 games can be better in gameplay and have more features such as more cars, weapons, houses, levels, gameplay mods, people and a bunch more S%*T in the game then the shitbox 360. Also, like the article says that you may get better graphics but do you get better gameplay?

Jonathon, u are write on some things, but u have your facts wrong. blu-ray stores way more then the duel layer. PS3 will have better grafics better gamplay and will be better in every aspect of the games. xbox 360 has better grafics onlt because its been out longer and they decoverd some tricks and the way the system works. PS3 will be twice as better when sony fines how to use there system. Ps3 has wireless controllers as well, Which take 10 minutes to charge and last 30 hours. Xbox requires batteries which lasts about the same.
Ps3 has FREE online play. Yes, you can talk online via headset, via keyboard, you can join parties, have a friend list, dont give me this bull that its not good.

Dear Sony Fanboy’s
Are you all RETARDS?! First, the Sony fanboy comments in this “blog” look-a-like are just their thoughts about the 360. Second, if you would spent some time trying to find EVIDENCE + FACTS on the internet you would definitly see that the 360 is better in ‘most’ aspects.
Lets begin.
The 360 can have HD up to 1080P because of the RAM thats in the console. The PS3 can only display movies in 1080P because of the blu-ray. It cannot display games in 1080P because it has low ram and blu-ray loads slower then DVD.
Blu-ray only would have a huge effect in graphics and loading times if the RAM in the PS3 is over 2 GB (wich until this day is not achievable, unless you have a alienware computer).
Now I can agree with you on something because Home is ‘kind of’ fun and its something like a 360 dashboard in 3D.
Did I mention that the 360 CAN display games in 1080P? But it can have more side-effects then effects you want it to have so it remains still a dream.
I think allot of people out there that believes EVERYTHING Sony says. As like the graphics card in the ps3 can reach 550 MHz, WHICH IS NOT TRUE! No matter what, the ps3’s graphic card will NEVER achieve that kind of level of performance because of the low ‘raw horse power’ it posesses. Lets keep it at 500 MHz. (so Sony will not sue me for facts…)
Lets move on to the Blu-ray/DVD part. Blu-ray is new, innovative and still in a Beta-test fase. Blu-ray already is effective, for movies that is… and is more of a luxury then a Pro in games.
Blu-ray also is $25 per empty disc and so games that want to drop in price cannot go below $50 or even $60.
The ‘Cell’ processor: Everyone heard from Sony that THIS is the first step into ‘the new generation’ Which is cleary just nonsense, it has nothing to do WHAT SO EVER with ‘the new generation’. It is just a processing unit upon the CPU processor of the PS3.
The CPU is more powerfull then the 360 CPU. The CPU in the ps3 is not as good as Sony Says but it stay’s more powerfull.
Now the GPU is not more powerfull then the 360 GPU and if you want more facts, I can email everything to you.
And if you count ALL the numbers together from the ps3 vs the 360 then you would see the 360 wins. Which explains allot why the 360 is graphicly superior to the ps3 and will stay THAT WAY. No matter what everyone says.
I most definetly hate the recent comments that say: “Give the ps3 some time, it will have more better looking games then the 360″. I can still pick-out launch games from the 360 that look better then recent ‘new’ ps3 games… and its almost a year-and-a-half now people…
Now for some good info, if the 360 and ps3 games are build from ‘ground-up’ the advantage will go to the 360. But if the ps3 would be the main-platform and then be ported to 360 the ps3 games will look better. Will the game be created on the 360 and then ported to the ps3 the 360 games will look better.
SO my conclusion will rest at: Its all about the developer to have the decision what to do with their new game. Build it from ground up (which will cost ALLOT and maybe to much for third party developers), Build it for ps3 then port to 360 (which will still cost ALLOT but Sony would profit more from it) OR build it for 360 then port to ps3 (which will cost way less then the other options and be created faster, more efficient and… microsoft will get more profit from it, all because 360 has Symmetric architecture and ps3 has Asymmetric architecture, do the math)

i just traded in my 360 for a ps3…not sayin ps3 is better but my xbox 360 had broke for the second and most people i talk to have had there 360 break atleast once through red rings or other things as well..im not sure which is better but sony is definetly more reliable

Hey girls, stop whining. All of you guys should just shut your traps and read what I have to say. I have both systems, Xbox 360 and PS3. I know lots of things about both because I did my research before I bought PS3. I will list the system next to the category to determine which system is better in that category.
Hardware- Xbox 360 gets the RRoD and has a failure rate of 33%, while the PS3 has a failure rate less than 1%.
Winner: PS3
Games- Xbox 360 has many good titles like Halo 3, Gears of War, BioShock, Mass Effect, Crackdown and Deadrising. PS3 has Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Resistance: Fall of Man, Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools of Destruction, Unreal Tournament 3, HAZE and Warhawk.
Winner: Xbox 360
Online- Xbox 360 charges $50 a year for online play but it is well worth the money. PS3 offers online for free and it is okay at best. It will get better in the future when HOME comes out.
Winner: Xbox 360
Multimedia- Xbox 360 is a great machine for watching movies, downloading TV shows, downloading movies, music and watching photos. However, PS3 has a built in Blu-ray movie player that retails alone for about $500 at an electronics store. You can also look at photos and listen to your music in DOLBY 5.1. PS3 will offer more downloadable content for it in the future.

In the Future- Xbox 360 has a standard DVD drive. PS3 has a Blu-ray disc drive. The deciding factor for both systems in the future will be how much space the two discs can hold. PS3’s Blu-ray disc can hold up to 54 GB of data and Xbox 360’s Dual Layered DVD can hold up to 9 GB of data. When Assasin’s Creed was made for Xbox 360 it took up around 85% of the space on a DVD disc. On PS3, it only took up around 25% of the room available. Also, PS3 will be coming out with around 40 exclusives this year alone. Xbox 360 will be coming out with around 10. Also, how long can Xbox 360 stay around? Microsoft said around 3-5 years. I think maybe 2 or 3. PS3 is going to be around for at least 5 or 6 more years. Remember when Xbox 360 was released Microsoft didn’t release any more original Xbox games. Sony still released many PS2 games and still continue to do that. When Xbox 360 is done it will be done for good. PS3 will always be developed for, even after PS4

Okay, I’ve had “The Red Ring of Death” (As we call it) a few times, but know why? Because it unplugged from the back! I laughed. Plugged it back up and I was BACK to playing the games that are 100 times better than the PS3. PS3 is a rip off! Think about it. 360 you can customize backgrounds, upload/download games, videos, pictures, and music. Oooh so you can for the PS3? It’s only because the PS3 had no better ideas than to rip off the 360. Graphics are better for 360, Gameplay is better, GAMES in general are better. Just get over it Sony fans Xbox 360 has PS3. Blue Ray will not stay at the top for long I’m sure. The way things are priced nobody can afford it so, they stick with DVD. Why go all high tech when you can stick with cheaper DVDs? There are a lot of ignorant people posting stuff on this site, all the while having no idea what they are talking about.
This is a very easy argument to put into perspective.
The XBox 360 had the jump on Playstation 3. That is why currently *some* of the games look better. It takes a couple generations of games for the programmers to become familiar with the SDKs for the individual consoles, once they do they can more fully realize their full potential.
The Playstation 3 is hands down without question far more powerful than the XBox 360. Period. Anyone that says different *doesn’t know what they are talking about*. Period. Plain and simple.
All these n00blets that are saying things like “PS3 can’t display games in 1080p” and “Blu-Ray is slower than DVD” don’t know what they are talking about. Period.
Get a life XBox fanboys. 2008 will be the year of the PS3. XBox is going to become less and less of a factor in the gaming industry from here on out.

CONCLUSION
When you break down the numbers, Xbox 360 has provably more performance than PS3. Keep in mind that Sony has a track record of over promising and under delivering on technical performance. The truth is that both systems pack a lot of power for high definition games and entertainment.

ok xbox 360 has Halo 3, & Gears of War, Playstation 3 cant hold onto their rights, can you imagine if call of duty 4 was only available for the ps3? Thats something that ps3 doesnt know ow to do, is hold on to their exclusive rights to games, u guys have metal gear solid 4 (gonna be great) and that racing game, playstation 3 needs more exclusive games to ensure that it makes more money. ok, so the live is free, but xbox live is infinitley better then ps3 live, and maybe im wrong on some things, i dont care, ps3 is a good system, but xbox 360 beat them, and im not a microsoft fan boy, i just like the xbox 360.

I traded my 360 in for a PS3 for these reasons..
I had RRoD FOUR times on THREE brand new systems (I had insurance cover) O and by the way I had x box in a well ventilated area with the PSU running from the wall not a chain so there’s no excuses for it breaking all the f******g time.
How an earth Microsoft can release a system that has a hardware breakdown rate of 33% is absolutely disgusting to say the least. F**k all the figures and facts, if your system has a hardware breakdown percentage of 33 you should re-think your ‘oh lets release it anyway it doesn’t matter if they all break’ mentality.
Second reason. Blu-Ray – Enough Said.
Third – FREE online play, no extra costs for a wireless adapter, annual subscription etc.. etc.. (and tbph xbox live isn’t much better than PSN anyway)
Fourth – Again no extra costs for wanting re-chargeable power packs, sony’s are free. Microsoft expect the consumer to buy all these add ons when sony give them to you in initial price.
Fifth – Halo is the most overrated game ever in the history of gaming, yeah it’s good but wtf? Halo is like Metallica (so many people worship them but they’re disgustingly awful compared to how everyone describes them) much like Halo.

I didn’t even need to carry on the argument after my 360 33% hardware failure rant. That alone is enough to show it cannot touch ps3.

I do many things in order to create a good cooling system for x360 GPU …i had to much experieces in putting fans in it( back to the gpu and cpu)but my silicon cream in every time after two days have been dried….it is easy to say that x360 is better than ps3 in graphic and games but when you can’t trust to the hardware of x360 it’s better to buy ps3…after 1 year in 2009 you can see ps3 will have many exclusive top games like killzone 2,resistence 2,tekken 6,GT5(full version),motorstorm2,little big planet and more….i think ps3 wins this war in end of 2008.

Lay your 360 flat instead of standing it up, and NEVER add any kind of fan and you wont get the RRoD! The RRoD is the only negative to the 360 but it can be avoided. If the PS3 wasn’t so prone to tip over when you stand it up, almost everyone would stand theirs up and the PS3 would have the same type of system failure as the 360. So even though it looks cooler to stand both systems up its too hard on the disc tray systems and it can scratch your discs. If anyone thinks that I’m just blowing hot air I’m not, I work for Microsoft Retailing and the facts that I’m telling you just need some time to get out. Oh and I fully respect the PS3 as a system but it all just comes down to which system game developers prefer according to cost and time to develop. As of now game developers obviously prefer the 360 over the PS3 (especially third party) due to the fact that the 360 library is 368 games strong versus PS3s 186. MS 4 Life.

If you want great HD movies, and you happen to own a good plasma/lcd tv (both consoles will look like crap on ctr tvs) then get the PS3
If you want great HD gaming with a lot of online features (of course not for free, everyone knows free stuff cannot be as good as paid stuff since you get no warranty of anything) then get the Xbox360
If you have enough money to have that great tv and cannot decide which, get them both.
If you own a PS3 but not a 360 then you have not used/experienced every aspect of it (online and offline) so you cannot objectively state it is better
If you own a 360 but not a PS3 then you haven’t used/experienced a the blu ray advantages, and the tilt controllers at full, so you cannot objectively state it is better.
If you own both, then you have a good point of view, since most PS3 fan boys wont buy a 360 just because their “pride” or whatever they believe they are representing, and viceversa.

Ok , this is the last time im going to have to write this online, after this i hope you people would just understand and get on with it:
The PS3 is NOT capable of the same level of graphics that the 360 has- IT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH GRAPHICS MEMORY TO HANDLE GRAPHICS LIKE THE 360 CAN. the 360’s graphics processor is 2 generations ahead of the PS3′S btw
The PS3 has a very fast core processor – but….
THE CORE HAS NO BEARING ON THE VISUAL OUTPUT OF THE MACHINE. the ps3 can perform far more calculations per second than the 360, however, as someone else wrote on a thread i saw once- its like putting a ferrari engine in a skoda. Yes the PS3 is capable of good graphics, just not as good as the 360’s. Which is why i buy all multi format games for the 360, and only use my PS3 for Sony exclusives.
If you really want to pay £20 so you can see it in blu-ray, then buy a ps3- if you want a serious games machine- buy a 360

Ive got the Xbox360 atm. might buy a ps3 sometime, but ive got it because of the games. Halo 3, Gears of War, Crackdown, GTA 4, all out on 360. As long as its fun im not bothered. The 360 has far more games and looks nicer, but the ps3 will develop nice games as well in the future, then the 360 will do the same again… cos u know why? 3 words – TRIAL AND ERROR!
i am in the process of applying those 3 words to my current situation cos i just got the red ring of death,
but im not just gonna give up on my investment now…. when it gets fixed, im gonna keep it in better condition as would any gamer (ps3 OR 360).
Im not gonna sell it and go for ps3, cos there is gears of war 2 in november and assassins creed 2 as well.
IN conclusion, both systems are almost equal and whether the ps3 is better or the 360 is better, they are probably the smallest of fucking differences, and to those people who argue ps3 is better cos its got 1080 PROGRESSIVE rather than INTERLACED, why dont u get a fucking life seeing u cant actually see the fucking difference – well i havent anyway.
Just play the fucking thing for what its worth and make no regrets – stick with your decision cos it wasnt the wrong one

*in addition to that last paragraph, i would like to say that i played on my mates ps3 (we played both assassins creed and gta 4) and to be quite honest, the only difference i found wasnt graphics… it was load times. before playing assassins creed on the ps3, an “installing” message came up. and gta4 took a bit longer to load but so what, that doesnt make the 360 better…

Xbox 360 is a game console and the PS3 isn’t. It isn’t about the features, it’s about when you play a game and how you feel about it. I had played COD4 on PS3 and loves it. But I was a fan of the 360 even when i didn’t have it yet. When the PS3 came out, I didn’t know what features it had. When I did find out which features it had, I still wanted the 360. When the release date for the Halo 3 was fixed, I wanted the 360 even more. I started to collect money to buy it. When I did buy it, (no thanks to my dad) I was in love with it. So it is not about the features, but the games, because they are game consoles.

In terms of the “six-axis” motion sensing argument – while there is actually a tiltboard mod for the 360, Microsoft are developing an entire body sensing system that interacts with the game. Kinda like the wii but not restricted to the arms and hands. So i suppose your little sony defense force is gonna shut the fuck up? we’d only hope

ok im just posting this dont want to start anything but first of all the 360 yes the 360 is online play but you have to pay so? dosent it speak for itself that you pay for 360 and not ps3? clearly because sony gave out a piece of crap and realized if they charged they would lose more customers than they already have with the ps3 fuckup secondly blueray? HA blue ray dvds fair enough are good but for games? the disks have to use the extra space for loading times ffs otherwise youd be waiting hours for a game to load up so this renders the extra space useless and may as well be a dvd and in my opinion ATI make better cards than nvidia anyway ive had nothing but trouble with them but fair enough people who like ps3 enjoy but ive had the 360 since it came out and its a hell of an expercience and i dont plan on switching
