Five reasons to hate Vista haters

By Alex Zaharov-Reutt

My colleague James Cornelius came up with five reasons to hate Windows Vista. Well, I’m a Vista user myself right now (still on RC1, no RTM goodness for me yet), so here’s my comic response to James’ Vista rant.

1. Vista haters are probably fanboys (or fangirls) for Macs, Linux or even Windows XP and probably haven’t even tried Vista yet.

There are plenty of XP users out there screaming their computer is just fine, they have Google Desktop, they can get transparent windows like AERO with some download off the Internet, all the features in Vista can be put into XP with other downloads, is still full of bugs, doesn’t have all the drivers yet, and etc etc blah blah blah.

Or you’re a rabid Mac using zealot who wants to tell the world how Mac OS X already has all the Vista features. Or maybe you’re a Linux user who thinks they’re God’s gift to operating system freedom and flexibility.

Well that’s all hogwash. Vista is a lovely operating system that brings all kinds of nifty features in the one OS, without needing to download and install a zillion free addon programs. Sure, there are still bugs inside but the Windows Update service can fix those. And yes, the ‘Ultimate’ version of Vista is mega expensive, but the Home Premium version is the same price as XP Pro is today, and you’ll probably just end up getting it when you upgrade to your next PC, by which time you’ll probably love Vista and won’t be able to wait to use it as your everyday PC.

If you’re not a Mac or Linux zealot, that is.

And as for the drivers issue, just about every version of Windows has had this problem, but it’s always been fixed pretty quickly, usually by the manufacturers whose product needs the drivers. With Vista effectively here, no manufacturer has any excuses. Tons of drivers are already here, with the ones that are missing either already in the RTM version, or on the way very, very soon.

2. Vista haters just don’t like Bill Gates.

Well, there’s not much we can do about that. You either like him or you don’t.

3. Vista haters say Vista is too expensive.

Yeah, well, I wish everything was cheaper. But everything comes at a price. Either pay it or go to Linux. No-one’s forcing you to buy Vista. If you want to stay in Amiga or Commodore 64 land, go right ahead. Or keep on using XP until the year 2010 for all I care, heck, go on using it until 2050.

4. Vista haters say it was late.

You know, there’s an old adage that says that if it wasn’t for the last minute, nothing would ever get done. Well, Microsoft has had a lot of last minutes, lately. Yes, it was delivered about three years late, but hey, better late than never. After using Vista for so long, I just can’t bring myself to go back to XP. It’s like finding a Windows 95 or 98 machine and trying to use it after years of using XP. Eeeeew!

Anyway, unless you’re some kind of anal neat on-time freak, how often do YOU get your stuff done on time? Thought so!

5. Vista haters are just jealous.

Yep, they’re just jealous of people like me who use Vista every day and love it, even though it’s the RC1 version I’m using which does have some glitches. Can’t wait to get the RTM version and see how much better it is, but already even in RC1 form I’m getting better performance than I ever got with XP.

Good luck, Vista haters. The chance to go into stores to see the object of your hate is coming soon. It’s an instore retail hating opportunity that’s not to be missed!

    1. Adrian:

To be honest, i can’t see myself upgrading to Vista, until i need a whole new PC Unit, and it comes packaged in.

I’m not a Windows hater at all, i love Microsoft’s products (Although i think the PS3 will own the xBox 36)

Another thing, i don’t mind Bill Gates, i don’t see why people hate him at all, what has he done wrong? Haters are no doubt jealous of his success and wealth.

Anyway, onto the whole Vista thing.
The main reason i don’t want to use Vista, is the interface…
It just doesn’t give me the feel of Windows at all. We’ve associated Windows to be a Professional, clean operating.

However, after seeing all these translucent windows, drop shadows, and too much glossy icons, oh, and not to mention the dark task bar (Where did that come from), it looks childish and unprofessional, in my opinion.

It’s like seeing a badly made site by a new user to Photoshop which has just discovered Pixel”life and all the tutorials and mixed them all into one.

The interface just looks far to messy for me, and that’s the main reason i won’t be using Vista.

I like to have my designs, and Os Interface clean… xD

    2. Ryan:

I think the majority of people who hate Vista are just haters of large corporations, not realizing that any big corp started as a small one, and all small ones, if they are good, are going to end up big ones. It’s basically hating of the successful.

I think vista looks beautiful, it’s not cluttered and it’s very polished. It looks technologically advanced yet probably easier for newcomers to use.

And to Adrian, PS3 is not looking very good in next to the 360. The 360 division is about the games and the gamers. Sony has gone all ‘were a big corporation look what we can make’. Turns out that their 8 processor Cell is really only 6 in-game, and they’re all bastardized compared to the 360’s more complete 3 cores. Their ‘theoretical’ perfomance numbers have been less than halved in real world situations, ad the design of the system has flopped compared to the 360. It’s harder to program for and designed primarily for gfx. Meanwhile their GPU is actually much less than the 360’s, which is using ATIs DirectX10 concept arcitecture and even has it’s never before seen on-die EDRAM allowing for 4x AA without slowing down anything. PS3 is going to flop I think. I mean they even took out rumble. 2 big names in PS’s world: Gran Turismo and MGS. Now play those without rumble. “am i locking up my breaks? am i burning out? who’s tires are making those sounds??”. How will all the cool little techy things in MGS work, like the heartbeats and detectors? They’ve gotten way out of touch with the gamer. They’re losing it.

    3. Melanie:

I am not enjoying Vista at all. Sure it is pretty with all the bells and whistles, but my programs and MICROSOFT GAMES are having problems and some are not even compatible. I got more pretty lights and bells and sacrificed usability. THAT’S why I hate Vista.

    4. Brian:

Melanie is exactly right. I have always been a Windows fan, and I even looked forward to using my brand new HP computer with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. I couldn’t print anything (both HP and Lexmark say that there are currently no available Vista drivers for their printers, and neither has even given any time frame for them), nor could I even access the internet through my wireless USB adapter (I tried two different brands, both of which worked fine on Windows XP). So, after giving my sixteen-year-old son the new Vista computer, I’m back to using XP, and I couldn’t be happier. So, yeah, I AM a “Vista hater”, and darned proud of it.

    5. Jonny:

Vista is out? Oh sorry, I’ve been in Linux land, where those transparent windows, and AREO things have been out for years, not to mention 64 bit processing that is actually 64 bit! 90% of the people who bought vista bought is because it looks nice and shiny. Guess what? XP and Linux can do that too! All you have to do is download a free skin, and z0mg! I have vista for the price of XP without sacrificing performance! I wouldn’t call myself a vista hater, but I just don’t like the stupidity. Why would you spend $400 to make your taskbar black and shiny? To show off maybe? Well I’ve fooled many a person with this vista skin for XP. Instead of spending money on vista, why not upgrade your RAM? 512 to 1GB can to wonders to a supposedly slow system, and only for around $80!
Thats just my opinion though, and we are all entitled to one.

    6. Matt:

I hate Vista with a passion! I have to work with it every day at my job and deal with its numerous in-compatibility issues, slower than all thou load times, and its unquenchable thirst for memory. I can’t emphasize enough from seeing the multi-user standpoint that Vista is not ready for the market. Vendors claim they are Vista compliant, but as I help on a daily bases the frustrated customers bringing printers (mind you that they do have the drivers on-line) unable to load into there shiny new system do to the compatibility issues. Plus I must note that the load time is insane. Vista freshly booted takes 20 to 30 minutes for initial start(after basic profile personalization ie. user/location/time/background) if the system comes stock with 1Gb of RAM, but God help you if it’s pushing 512Mb then you’ll have to wait an hour. I can only hope that the debut of SP1 for Vista will change my opinion, but for now I stuck with this deformed crossbred version of Mac OS X/Microsoft XP. I understand when new platforms come out that this is expected to happen, but seriously with the amount of money and propaganda wasted on this maybe just maybe Microsoft could have planned further ahead. Ok I’m done…

    7. Simon:

what can I say? just don’t bother. Granted it looks pretty cool, but it’s dog slow, resource hungry, incompatible with a considerable number of applications and crashes at least once a day. Best stick with XP for at least another year.

      Thanks for nothing Microsoft.

    8. bob:

I hate Vista not because it’s from a big corp, and I am not Macky – I just hate it because was forced on me and it does do the most primoidial things like send and recieve email – and there is no help.

    9. Dr. Derty:

Not forced to get Vista? I just bought a laptop. Try buying any new computer/laptop without Vista on it…Good luck.

    10. nick:

i use pc’s every day and up until vista have loved pc’s ( and this is from an ex mac user)…but Vista drives me MAD! I hate it. We just got a new pc and are now going to put a copy of xp on it. Xp was great….how can Vista be sooooo bad. it amazes me. i hate it so much

    11. joe:

I got a new notebook and it came with Vista Home Basic… I thought it would be ok– Its been out long enough… well, I used it for less than a day when I loaded task managaer and saw that nearly 500MB RAM was used just to have it idle… I only had 1GB RAM, which would smoke with XP using … approx. 100MB… so I installed XP instead. Vista tried to stopped me and hwen I was done my internal Wifi w/ my new aspire didn’t work- I did the smart thing and bought a new usb wifi that was supported by XP. I will never buy an Acer again and I hate Vista. 500MB RAM for nothing, what a piece of crap.

    12. u sux:

      completely wrong!

Xp require’s more things such as 1gb memory -.- and blah blah

at our stage of modern time we can say most of us used XP and those who do server’s and IT stuffs are suffering udner vista.

vista currently needs more updates and fix more problems. not many people in our world are rich so hope they do reduce the price.

graphic card’s are just addtional money waste also with memory for vista.

if yr not playing games and those designing i recommend u dun get vista.waste money, waste time, waste extra work cause u dun need that kind of graphic for a computer, Xp pro i think its still the best.

but i believe vista will be a better after afew years of debugging, lol security in the internet world haha when theres a bunch of microsoft team teaching their stuffs, obviosu the world will know how to hack it haha

    13. Morgan:

This is the worst article I’ve read in a long time. Your reasons aren’t even facts – you’re just recycling stereotypes and inflammatory FUD. Sadly, there are many reasons to hate Vista, and your “suck up and like it or you’re a mac/linux zealot” opinion is just prejudice. Look it up.

    14. Anita:

These are the reasons I hate Vista: There are no USB modems compatible (at least in AUS), I can’t network to an XP computer (yes I have downloaded that update for XP) Nero won’t work anymore, not even the “vista compatible one”, the internet runs really slow, Power Director can’t be installed, and the “vista compatible” version trial won’t download.
Since I activated straight away I can’t get a refund. And to think before using Vista, I hated Apple because it was too complex compared to XP!

    15. Jim:

If it ain’t broke–don’t fix it! And WindowsXP was not broken. Windows VISTA was the biggest mistake Microsoft has made to date. The next computer for me will me APPLE. I find the VISTA tedious, cumbersome and just a road block to everyday computer use by the common man. I went to EBay and found a sub for the same computer I bought and with Windows XP media. It was worth the money since Microsoft is pulling the same crap that they did with prior problems. I OPERATE my computer, IT will not operate me.

    16. Joe User:

I’m writing this from Windows XP Pro SP2, which works very reliably, so how can you act as if this silly personal attack invalidates the criticisms of Vista?

Frankly, I hate it because they moved everything around for no good reason, not only in Vista, but also in Office 2007 (why is there no ‘File’ menu in Word? yes, I DO know where it went, but that was really pointless).

UAC is incredibly annoying and does NOT protect you from anything. You get used to clicking ‘Allow’ after about 5 minutes without reading it, it comes up for the stupidest crap (oh no! the user clicked something in the control panels! quickly! protect them from configuring their computer!), and it’s annoying as hell.

Finally, Vista is really crash prone. No, I wasn’t (past tense, Vista isn’t even half-baked yet, so I’m not running it again) running any weirdo hardware with unsupported drivers. I was running a brand new Dell, with factory installed, signed drivers and the machine was a slow-ass piece of crap.

So give me a break. There’s no reason other than “ooh shiny!” to migrate from XP to Vista right now, and everyone other than software developers writing Vista software should avoid it right now. Unless you *like* spending all your time trying to get the wretched piece of crap to work.

But noooo, I must be some kind of zealot fanboi, because no one would hate Vista after having it stuck in an endless loop of Explorer crashing (no, not IE, I mean Explorer, as in the desktop, etc.), wherein you have approximately 10 seconds to diagnose the problem each reboot.

Oh well, got better at moving the mouse very quickly, made it to the System Restore (finally! kept losing time to a damn UAC prompt), and that didn’t die with Explorer, then restored the damn system.

Not that it mattered in the end. It got returned for one that runs XP.

    17. Brian:

I was very excited to try Vista on my brand new HP lappy. It’s asthetics are nice. After a while I started to realize that it was really designed for a relatively novice user – like my 65 year old mother. It is simple to use, and you are protected from screwing anything up. The flip side of the coin is that it is extremely unfriendly to those who have been using Windows at an advanced level for years.

What used to take 2 or 3 clicks now takes 7 or 8 (if that feature is even available any more.) Many (I’ve heard up to 50%) current software applications have reduced functionality or simply no longer function in Vista. Ironically this includes Visual Studio, which is Microsoft’s flagship development environment for creating new software on their .NET platform. If you are a .NET developer like me, read no further – reformat and install XP. Vista is completely unworkable as a development platform.

I am now working with HP to give me XP drivers for the machine that I just purchased. The future looks pretty bleak for my efforts. HP doesn’t support XP any more. I might as well have purchased a really pretty door stop.

Moral of the story: If you are considering the purchase of a new machine with Vista, be absolutely sure that all of the applications that you count on for your livelihood function the way that you need them too on Vista. Since most companies rely on at least some out dated legacy systems for their day to day survival, this will be a huge barrier for the adoption of Vista in business.

I do not recommend Vista to anyone who wants to use any of their pre-existing applications, or if they want to develop new software since the development environments are currently broken.

    18. Sean Hodges:

Entertaining article, missing some meat as a serious argument, but entertaining none the less ;)

I just wanted to strongly disagree with point 3. That is the one point that causes a lot of problems for “Vista haters”, but not for the point itself, it’s more to do with your summary.

I want to buy a new laptop, but I can’t buy one without buying Windows Vista. No, it’s not free, you have to pay for it; and Yes, it IS Microsoft’s fault, because they place people and companies into vendor lock-in, and abuse their monopoly to encourage hardware distributers to force Windows down everyones throats.

Regardless of all your other points: the fact I am forced to buy it, even if I don’t want it, is a hinging factor for the other points you made to exist.

    19. Joe:

I had the money to upgrade to vista, havent owned a mac in 20 years, like bill gates, tryed vista for 4 months giving it every chance to prove me wrong. But Vista just plain sucks.

    20. phetamine:

From reading this article I actually learned that Vista user’s still lack the mindset of staying secure on the internet. Funny part about the gnu/linux user’s being God’s gift to the OS or what not, most gnu/linux user’s are pretty versatile with any operating system. Why or How you might ask? It is an operating system it still has a function and besides most gnu/linux user’s enjoy hacking around and figuring stuff out. By the way, before you go off and try to flame try and remember that your just a fanboy yourself so yeah hypocrisy is funny to see.

    21. Bob Jones:

      Interesting, but wrong.

I have Vista, XP and Linux on my PC. I mainly use Linux nowadays (since I installed Beryl I can’t get enough of the shininess!) but since I like to play games I use XP for that.

I’ve used Vista a bit, but I haven’t found a really compelling reason to bother with it. Its install was fiddlier than Linux’s due to it not having native drivers for all of my hardware. I’m sure I would get used to it if I used it, but I can’t really see any reason to use it when I have XP (which runs faster) and Linux (which looks nicer and is more stable). There’s nothing wrong with Vista to make me hate it, but there’s also nothing special to make me like it.

    22. George M:

      What a lame list.
      1. Only valid point, but not true of James Cornelius obviously.
      2. Irrelevant. Not mentioned in the article.
      3. is not a refutation at all, it’s just conceding the point.
      4. doesn’t matter now, but again he’s not saying it isn’t true.
      5. is just name calling. It’s completely unsubstantiated that most people are jealous, although he wishes this were true.

Jeez. These are high school level arguments. It’s completely ineffective as a refutation of the original article, and it’s bad writing besides. Learn your craft if you plan to continue doing this.

    23. Daniel:

Well i cant say I hate it. I love Vista but its just my games dont work on it well. And yes vista have tons of bugs so if it hade all the fixes in it. Id be happy with it. So I downgraded to my factory default OS which is Windows XP Sp2 Media center 2005. Ya i got the express upgrade of vista for free. Am I keeping the dvd? You bet i am. One day Im sure I’ll go back to vista once my halo and bf2 and bf2142 games work great on vista. But until then. Im stay with XP.

    24. Wizborg:

Seriously, did no-one read the very top where Cornelius said it was a “comic response”???

Gees, I don’t like vista for numerous reasons, but I’m not going to flame Cornelius for what is effectively satire…..

    25. John:

Ok Alex Zaharov-Reutt definitely works at Microsoft!

      1. Windows XP users have used Vista and say it stinks or it works the same about Windows XP. None of them want to upgrade (spend an additional $1,000) for hardware yet. Probably in 1-2 years they all will eventually switch to Vista or if you dont want a billion bugs with a billion hackers… then get an Apple computer. Vista isn’t worth upgrading so I would advise switching to Apple’s OSX. Not only are Apple’s computers beautiful but they are so easy to use compared to Windows in general. Dont be stuck in a Windows world where everything is boring…

      2. Your second argument is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!!! I personally like Bill Gates and what he has done especially with XBOX. This guy is a genius! I own both a PC and a MAC for years and I respect both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates equally. Without them we would still be in a developing country’s computer world so to say…

      3. Vista is way too expensive!!! $299 for an OS? plus $1,000 to upgrade your computer? I dont think so… Just to be in the same environment as Windows XP but with a little eye candy? Come on now… You forgot to mention Apple’s OSX which comes at a price of $129 which is even better than Vista’s Ultimate version which costs $399!!!!! The standard version of Vista is also a joke and many users have complained that the features advertised aren’t what was provided… and that’s the facts so you can deny that!!

      4. You are saying that everybody does things late all the time. Very good for criticizing everyone, your statements are very childish. So what if Vista was delayed, and you are right its late than never. But they could have done so much more than to just sit on a monopoly which they have done for so many years!

      5. Nobody is jealous of anybody here. I would like to have all Operating Systems including Vista, but I prefer Apple’s OSX. I have tried Vista and its nothing out of the ordinary, just more eye candy with a lot of problems right now. Apple has always been innovating along the way, but Vista has not. Vista sucks either the beta or the final version compared to Apple or even Linux. Its not only me talking but the majority of Windows, Apple, and Linux users… and that’s the facts max…

    26. Greg:

Vista is like going back to Win 95. It is a horrible operating system that doesn’t play well with anything. Microsoft has lost their minds. Come on Linux, Microsoft has finally lost it. I am not an avid fan of Linux I just need a stable operating system that works. Vista is not this system.

    27. Paul:

I’m an IT Professional and have been using Vista Business for around 4 months on my Sony Laptop (preinstalled).

We had to know about it to advise and support clients so we took on a few new machines and souped them up to max ram.

We have since ditched it completely in the business as seriously affecting productivity and all are back on XP Pro – we only use Linux for servers. We don’t use Macs at all.

It may be ok for the inexperienced but I for one am longing to return to XP for networking, speed, compatibility, uac and reliability reasons. We never had any security problems with XP (or cometo think of it any earlier version of Windows) either. Only thing is that I cannot without sacrificing some of the things I use on my laptop (Motion Eye Camera for one).

We gave it a real chance and it failed.

    28. Jen:

This past year I was introduced to Linux, and I loved it — as a toy to play with, because I love taking things apart. But as an operating system, it’s really hard to get working, and I can honestly say for the average person Linux sucks.

I’ve remained a loyal Microsoft customer because I’m a PC gamer, and let’s face it — things on XP “just work”, unlike on Linux. Not true on Vista. It feels like nothing works. I understand that it’s a new OS that may not have all the drivers. But when friends tell me they’ve had to hack their own registries to get Vista to recognize a piece of hardware that already has a Vista driver, I’d say the OS has problems.

As a gamer, I’m used to paying money to upgrade my machine. But now I have to pay to upgrade my machine for the newest games in addition to accounting for Vista. 2 GB of RAM is insane when I already want to run a game that also takes 2-3 GB of RAM. Unless Vista is offering me a fully immersive 3-D environment (which it’s not), I’m not sure why I’m paying for the bloat-ware.

And why should my 55-year-old parents who only do e-mail and write text documents do a *massive* upgrade from their 1.0 GHz processor with 256MB of RAM to get a pretty GUI with not much extra functionality?

I’ve had Mac/PC users tell me that the only real features Vista has added have been to compete with features in OS X. And after seeing a demonstration of a Mac in action, I think I’d have to agree. The problem is, Mac can implement the same features on less than half the processing power of Vista.

I’ve never even considered a Mac prior to Vista, but now I’m starting to wonder if Microsoft will force me (and a lot of other customers) that way. Supposedly the first service pack for Vista isn’t even due until 2009, and I just can’t wait that long for my computer to work. I just pray Microsoft listens to the complaints from its customers and puts Vista in the same trash bin as Millenium.

    29. TSHewlitt:

Well, as a Systems Manager, I felt I had to purchase and learn everything I could. I picked up a new laptop with Vista Premium pre-loaded. This is a major international name-brand. You know, one of the top three producers in the world. I was shocked at how poorly it performed. The laptop has lots of RAM, so that’s not the issue. Upgraded drivers, etc. Still had problems. All sounds play twice so it’s sounds like ther’s an echo. It nearly goes to sleep when moving from one big app to another. It takes a long time for it to finish whatever it’s doing in the background after I boot it up. Why would an OS use 500MB of RAM when it’s idle, with no apps running? Bad programming, that’s why. I eventually got so sick of it that I wiped the machine clean and installed XP. It runs SO much faster, and there’s never been any sort of problem when using XP. At some point, I reloaded Vista. (I still have to learn about it.) After re-installing, I started getting pop-ups that the registration key was invalid. Called Microsoft… They said that even though I was using the code that was printed on the MS label on the laptop, I’d have to buy a new copy! The laptop now has Windows XP once again, and it will stay that way. Luckily I’m the one who makes the final decisions about OS and application upgrades in my company. We will NEVER deploy Windows Vista. We’ll stick with WinXP until the next version is released, or more likely, we’ll continue expanding our thin client deployment.

    30. Despise Vista:

I am pretty sure by now Alex loves to hate Vista too. Other than those good-for-nothing Vista developers, by now even Bill must be a Vista hater.

    31. vistasgo:

      Here’s 3 more!

Experts say there is real reason to be
      concerned.

      Read about it here…

      http://urlfreeze.com/urltrack/VistaNews/

Are you concerned? Do you agree with
      the experts?

      K

    32. Robert:

I am not a fan of Vista. It doesn’t offer me anything worthwhile that XP doesn’t offer. I’m not a “fan” of XP, either, XP is just another tool that works well. I’m not going to get rid of it just because someone comes out with a sparkly new tool.

I don’t like Vista constantly asking me if I want to run the software that I just clicked on. By clicking on it, I’ve already told the OS that I wanted to run it. I don’t like that some programs insist that I “run it as an administrator”.

I have to admit that there are a few things I do like. I like that I can create a shortcut to the printers folder on the desktop. I do like that when I open a printer’s preferences, it shows up on the title bar.

But look at the Add Fonts dialog: it’s an old Windows 98 style dialog, with separate dropdowns for the drive and the directories. Or go into Notepad, check “Print to File”, and then click Print. Just a box to type the file name without a dialog for the path. These are, of course, minor things, but it just makes you think “what else wasn’t upgraded? Is this a real upgrade anyway?”

But when I buy a faster computer, I don’t want that increased speed to be eaten up by the operating system. That’s not an upgrade, as far as I am concerned. I will stick with XP for the forseeable future. What Vista offers just isn’t worth it. If I bought Vista, I’d just be paying to slow my computer down.

    33. Steven:

Okay before I start, I do have Vista. And I did shill out the extra $ for ultimate. Because let’s face it, basic offers nothing new.

Melanie:”I am not enjoying Vista at all. Sure it is pretty with all the bells and whistles, but my programs and MICROSOFT GAMES are having problems and some are not even compatible. I got more pretty lights and bells and sacrificed usability. THAT’S why I hate Vista.”
Compatibility issues? Hmm really? How odd, why not try this new nifty neato function built right into vista called COMPATIBILITY mode? You see, it lets you run the program the same as an older OS would. Therefore, what works on XP, works on vista! Yay for SIMPLE problem solving!

Matt: well I’m not going to put it all here, suffice to say, I have instant loading times for everything. My entire startup takes about 10 seconds. So I’m sorry that your work won’t pay the extra $10 for computers made this millennium.

Simon: “what can I say? just don’t bother. Granted it looks pretty cool, but it’s dog slow, resource hungry, incompatible with a considerable number of applications and crashes at least once a day. Best stick with XP for at least another year.”
I don’t know what you do to your computers, but I’ve never managed to crash this thing. And I’ve had 40+ apps running.

bob: “I hate Vista not because it’s from a big corp, and I am not Macky – I just hate it because was forced on me and it does do the most primoidial things like send and recieve email – and there is no help.”
Um, it was NOT forced on you. You see linux is a rather neat OS that can boot off of a cd or usb drive. And yeah there is help. Press F1.

Dr. Derty: “Not forced to get Vista? I just bought a laptop. Try buying any new computer/laptop without Vista on it…Good luck.”
Buy from Dell, they still sell with XP, or even linux if you want. Or get a mac, just don’t complain if your problem solving skills are lacking.

joe: Yeah home basic sucks. You might have noticed the feature list, it took up about 3-4 lines.

u sux: We have this new thing out now, it’s called GRAMMER. It’s from the makers of SPELLING, and INTELLIGENCE.

Morgan: I agree the reasons posted were rather bad.

Jim: “Frankly, I hate it because they moved everything around for no good reason, not only in Vista, but also in Office 2007 (why is there no ‘File’ menu in Word? yes, I DO know where it went, but that was really pointless).”
Um, the file menu used to be the one at the top left corner right? Well, you know the new version of it? *gasp* IT’S IN THE SAME SPOT! The top left!

Brian: “The flip side of the coin is that it is extremely unfriendly to those who have been using Windows at an advanced level for years.”
Apparently you’re not that advanced then. Many of the things that make Vista user friendly can be turned off. For instance Vista preserves your program files folder, creating symbolic links to files instead of putting them into that folder. That way all of the program’s files stay intact.
Now, if you’re like me, you might not have liked windows not allowing you to change certain folders. Well luckily for “advanced level” users you can turn off that functionality. Once you do, you can edit as you wish! Another example of extremely simple problem solving! (See where I’m going with this? You have to be able to think to use Vista.)
“current software applications have reduced functionality or simply no longer function in Vista. Ironically this includes Visual Studio, which is Microsoft’s flagship development environment for creating new software on their .NET platform. If you are a .NET developer like me, read no further – reformat and install XP. Vista is completely unworkable as a development platform.”
I am an active .NET developer, working from Vista. And, oddly enough, it all works! Every function has been preserved in Visual Studio. And I’m not running it with admin privledges, or compatibility. It just works by itself. And I have all of the 2005 express editions. Web, C#, C++, J# etc.
“Since most companies rely on at least some out dated legacy systems for their day to day survival, this will be a huge barrier for the adoption of Vista in business.”
Again, “Compatibility Mode”. Look it up, you’ll like it.

Sean Hodges: I’ll reiterate: you can buy laptops with linux, OS X, or XP. Just try… you know LOOKING for them.

Daniel: Again learn some simple grammar, then try that sentence again.

Wizborg: Yay! Someone who can read too!

John: “so I would advise switching to Apple’s OSX”
See the problem with your solution is that if everyone switched to Macs, then people would actually put the effort into creating viruses for them.
“Your second argument is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!!! ”
Again these were “Comic Responses”, not actual arguments. Which was conveniently stated in the post directly above yours.
“Apple has always been innovating along the way, but Vista has not”
Actually they’ve both been stealing ideas from the open source linux community. So if you want to tote an OS other than Vista, make it a linux OS. Apple is not the original.

Paul: “We never had any security problems with XP”
Really? Then what was that whole thing about people being able to write malicious code into images? Just a bad dream was it?

Jen: “for the average person Linux sucks.”
You’re right it does. Linux is not an easy Os to get into, and requires a bit of experience in order to get it to work properly.
“But when friends tell me they’ve had to hack their own registries to get Vista to recognize a piece of hardware”
Really? Same people that told you you need “2 GB of RAM” for vista? I’ve got 1 GB. That’s it. I can run 5 simultaneous games of Phantasy Star Universe, which is not a resource friendly game by any means.
And no your parents shouldn’t upgrade, in fact they would’ve been fine with 98, so why did they upgrade to XP? Because it was shinier that’s why.
“I’ve never even considered a Mac prior to Vista”
If you like the features that a Mac has, just implement them into windows. The Object Dock can be used in XP or Vista, and there are many different versions of the Mac menu bar (or what ever they call it. iMenu? I don’t know.) available as well. All free. If you already have windows you’re better off just adding functionality instead of switching and finding out that a lot of your old applications will have bigger compatibility issues then people say they will on Vista.

TSHewlitt: That’s the hardware’s fault, not vista’s. I by no means have a “state of the art” computer, but I have not compatibility issues, or speed issues. Compared to XP my system flies.

Robert: “I don’t like Vista constantly asking me if I want to run the software that I just clicked on. By clicking on it, I’ve already told the OS that I wanted to run it. I don’t like that some programs insist that I “run it as an administrator”.”
First of all that feature insures that viruses don’t run programs automatically without you knowing. However, if you don’t like it, TURN IT OFF. Your control panel is there for a reason! Use it!
Secondly no, I don’t like having to run 1 out of every 50 programs as an administrator either, because I’m worried about what they want to do to my computer without letting me know about it. And because it really is inconvenient to right click on a file, go to compatibility, and select “run as administrator” Because you know what? I hate having to click 3 whole times, and never having to worry about that application again. Yep, I hate that once you tell Windows to run it as an administrator, it’s smart enough to do that every time. Note the sarcasm. Besides that, it isn’t the OS asking you to run the program in Administrator mode is it? No, it’s the program asking to be allowed to do whatever the hell it wants. In XP EVERY program is run as an administrator, so it’s never asking you if you want to let it run as an administrator. It’s built in automatically. Kind of odd isn’t it? Letting any old program alter the system however it wants? Have you ever tried running XP without administrator privileges? It’s useless.

Anyways I hope it doesn’t seem like it too much, but I’m not a Vista “zealot” or anything. I simply wrote this because ignorant people bother me. If you’re too lazy to put the effort into trying to fix the “problem” then don’t complain about it! And especially don’t complain about optional features!! “Optional” means that you don’t have to use them.
If you don’t like Vista, don’t complain that you can’t find computers with XP anymore! I saw a lot of complaints about laptops only coming with Vista installed. So here’s the solution,
      Dell Laptops with XP:
      http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/winxp_inspnnb?c=ca&cs=cadhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=anavml
Didn’t even try looking did you? It was right there on the front page…

Please think next time. Stupidity kills.

Don’t agree with me? Then please feel free to write me an email! But please ensure that you actually use proper spelling. For instance, I will delete anything like this:
      “u sux, cz XP rox”
Upon sight. I am not a Vista advocate, and I do like Linux better than any version of Windows. However Linux is not compatible with very many applications, except those made specifically for it. Therefore I use Vista.

    34. Joe Sample:

I have observed Windows Vista to be a slower operating system that what I should expect from Microsoft’s already-nice advancements with Windows XP. I used to fanboy Linux, but the truth is that Linux isn’t there yet. They are close, but they aren’t there. I use Windows XP on my laptop and I know full well that I couldn’t do my job without it. Windows XP, as far as I’m concerned is an almost perfect OS that I’m perfectly happy with. This whole Vista transition makes me sick because my clients hate it (I do IT consulting) and they don’t have much choice in the matter.

But what really makes me sick is that Microsoft mustn’t have surveyed this operating system. Because I know they would have discovered a load of upsets that would ensue and changed their product. As it stands now, everyone I know has problems with it, thinks that it is dog slow when compared to Windows XP, and has asked me “Can’t I just have Windows XP back?”

Microsoft needs to fix whatever they did to make that OS dog slow. That’s really my only gripe; the superior recommended hardware, and the computer is STILL dog slow. Amazing…

    35. KrazyDawg:

I hate vista not for the reasons above but for all the annoying bugs, glitches, and incompatibility with software. My wireless internet no longer works and I have the red x even when plugged in through wired. The fix action is to do all this extra stuff you shouldn’t have to. Service Pack is taking to long to come out and they could release more fixes. I’ve had files take forever to copy and the status window freeze. I lost the ability to select and copy all files and the fix action was to make some registry changes. My P4 Northwood HT ran faster when running the same programs I do on a Core 2 Duo. Vista just plain sucks. It’s slow and buggy. I’ve had BSOD from trying to defragment my external hard drive. I gave them over 2 months and I’m finally installing XP today.

    36. Lore:

I hate vista. First I had XP but i got a new computer and vista was pre-installed. I hate it that I can’t change the colour of the taskbar. that was the least i could expect from vista. When I want to install programs and games I get always problems. my bluetooth usb adapter software can’t install (that’s confirmed by the brand). I have some old skool ms-dos games, but vista gives an error. I searched on the internet and it appeared that i have to install a lot of weird and dangerous programs if I want to play the games.
And that’s not all. Vista crashes 4 times a week and when my computer finally works again the internet connection is out so I have to restart the computer again. I can’t imagine that this is good for my computer.
The lay-out isn’t that beautifull the see trough skins are so ugly!!
Last thing is that everytime I want to open a program it asks for me if it is okay to open. Why can’t vista remember that the program is okay??

      1. Vista haters are probably fanboys (or fangirls) for Macs, Linux or even Windows XP and probably haven’t even tried Vista yet.
      -I have it!!

      2. Vista haters just don’t like Bill Gates.
-I like Bill Gates because microsoft did a good job till vista came.

      3. Vista haters say Vista is too expensive.
-Vista came with my PC so it didn’t cost me anything and the PC was a gift!
-Our school had a deal with a site where we could buy vista home premium for 17 euros.

      4. Vista haters say it was late.
-Why was it late? I rather think they should have waited longer before bringing it out. So they could fix the problems.

      5. Vista haters are just jealous.
      -I have vista myself.

Are you sure you’re not working with XP accedentally?

    37. roman:

Yes, 100% agree with Lore. Same case – new computer with Vista preinstalled, and almost useless, because it is not compatible with most programs I use. I cannot access my employer’s network from home, I cannot install my DVD archiving program, even my Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10 has some compatibility problems. Thanks God I still have my old computer with XP on it, but then what’s the point? How could they release an OS that is not retro-compatible? Is there a simple way to install XP instead?

    39. Jav:

Well, none of the reasons to hate Vista haters apply to me. I have Vista, not an Ubuntu or XP fan until I became one forced by Vista unreliability, not in a hurry for Windows to release Vista, don’t hate Bill Gates. But Vista is a horrible move by Windows. The Shell is unstable. The incompatibilities of most software, and even hardware with the “Vista certified” stamp is frustrating. Defender crashes every time. Explorer crashes here and there. Upgrades don’t make it much better. Far, very far from a product that should have been released. Instead of marking supremacy, is sending people away to explore Ubuntu or Mac. And now, WIndows is taking legal action against Ubuntu…. their solution is to destroy the other options, not to improve the one they are providing. Way to hurt a brand and give a helping hand to the competition… reminds me of Mercedes Benz.

    40. Shocked Man!:

      Man I`m Shocked!

Vista is BullShiit! Its the same thing as XP but more Graphical! I have 14 Year Old and I use Smart Enough to Use Linux!

Your just Angry because you don’t know how to Use Konsole (YES it take a K on Linux xD) and you were still : IF I CAN’T USE IT… NOBODY WILL USE IT! MWUAHAHAHA!…… Man Shut Up, Im sure you don’t know the Programming Base on Unix. Its like a Holy Bible!

Inform ur Self before come here and Say everything is bullshit but you dont know what is it!

    41. zi0n:

      ROTFL

      1. I have to use Vista at work, I’m programmer and admin so believe me, I know that shit.

      2. Bill Gates has huge influence on PC’s advancement and I really want to squeeze him hand.

      3. Download torrent, wait some time and buy one DVD – that is Vista cost

      4. OK, I agree with you

      5. Are you kidding me? Come and take a look on MY desktop, we’ll see who will be jealous.

    42. Patrick:

The problem with Vista is that it use to much resources. Thats the reason to you having problem with games on it. For example: Xp uses 200 normally
and Vista uses 1000 witch is to much. If you want to play game faster on your Vista computers then try my new software if you want: http://www.patricksonik.com/PTR%20winfast.html

If this dont work then contact me on admin@patricksonik.com and I will try to get it run faster if I can.

Of couse this application should work….

Vista (EXPLORER) also uses much graffic witch my software will take care of when you start a game.

Dont purchase Vista to your XP computers before
      the bugs are fixed…

    43. Brady:

Hey all. Funny we should even be talking about this. In my opinion people just want their computers to work.

I am in the US Navy and my job specialty is computers and electronics. I have been doing it for almost 18 years. With that said you can imagine how often my friends want me to help them with computer issues both hardware and software.

I myself have had quite a few issue with my personal computers. Been a PC guy all the way. After an upgrade to vista which I have nicknamed chista my wife kept calling me at work telling me something was not working. Internet, wireless, certain hardware…….. So I took the plunge and went Mac. Do yourself a favor and buy one. I have had it for 6 months now and have had not a single problem with it. The cool thing is I actually have two computers in one. By running Parallels a virtual machine program, I can run XP on it right along side of my Mac operating system. Not only that XP is twice as fast on this Mac as on my last hand built top of the line Microsoft PC. If you don’t believe this go to PC world Dec or Jan Issue. I know Macs are more expensive but you do get what you pay for. Trust me on this. I have nothing to gain by telling you this but Vista is straight up Junk compared to my Mac Pro running an XP virtual machine. Oh and last thing you will not be hurting Bill Gates’ feelings if you buy an Apple. He is quite a large share holder. To tell you how happy I am with my Apple. I have given away two gateway laptops (almost new) running vista and two desk top microsoft machines. Notice I said give them away. Some would ask if you like Apple so much why the Virtual XP machine running on it. Easy. Not all programs run on macs. For me my stock evaluation program Telechart only runs on windows. I have asked them to make a Mac version they refuse. If they had a Mac version I would not even have to run the virtual machine. Office for Mac is sweet. Files go both ways no problem.

    45. Terry:

If, like me, you were a technician working with a wide variety of clients who are experiencing a multitude of Vista problems and if you saw almost daily the kind of expensive hardships that Vista brings then you would hate Vista as a simple matter of logic. It is an astounding step backwards, it is a fragile piece of crap. If you’re not experiencing problems and inordinate frustrations with Vista then you should do more with your life than just play solitaire

    46. Dazz:

I agree with the person above me IT IS CRAP!, and i am using vista on my laptop so dont say try it first!… and you know what?? i HATE vista with a passion…the only good thing is the automatic installation of some programs… thats it!!

I’ve even known a few companies staff to stop working when vista was installed on their pc’s and wouldnt go back to work until they had XP back…

    47. Edd:

Here it is, 2008, and we still have people winding up here. I got here by typing “I hate vista” into google. Believe me, I used other, less subjective searches, but I really couldn’t find much love for vista, either. In my comparison with all the Win OS’s I have worked on, it seems they decided to place an overprotective mother sim into Vista–can’t see my office network, can’t install certain apps (which work well under my mixed 98SE/XP environment), keep getting told “You shouldn’t go outside without User Account Controls enabled!”

Windows Vista is at least as frustrating as my experience with Windows MF. I hope it does as well as the Apple Lisa.

    48. Aaron:

My prediction: Windows Vista is going to be Microsoft’s undoing. Windows 3.1 worked better than this!

    49. rabih:

i hate windows vista!!!!!!!!! too much trouble installing usb devices.

    50. rabih:

Here’s a parody of Anonymous verses Microsoft over Vista:
      http://www.dailymotion.com/linonymous/video/x4mvjd_anonymous-takes-on-microsoft-parody_fun

    52. SDSmith:

People are on here talking about how it’s acceptable to still use XP. This operating system is 7 years old! And you still have to look at DOS screens on your way in, it’s a total joke! This ignorance comes from not having properly sampled alternatives. Microsoft have been languishing in their position as top dog; They’re unproductive, uncompetitive and are now seriously damaging the entire world with their lack of progress – it’s that serious. All we can do in protest is boycott Microsoft, and it really deserves consideration. I’m an IT professional and a frustrated ex-XP user. I just couldn’t use something that antiquated any longer.

    53. JR:

I dont hate all of the vista os, I hate some parts of it though.
For example, the search engine to find files on the computer is pure crap.
its slow, if you try to input a file preceded by its path, the search wont work, its weird and its not good at all.
Second, you cannot customize , add the buttons for deleting and copying files on the win explorer tools bar anymore.
i do love though some features, such as win asking you if you want to rename a file whose name conflicts when moving many files altogether.

    54. Paradimn:

I bought VISTA and an new machinne, printer, router and cables etc. to run it. It won’t do simple tasks like display photos, connect to the internet or retrieve email. All using Microsoft programs. If Microsoft can’t get its own programs to work in its own operating system what hope is their for the rest of us. I hate vista the way I hate any scam. Microsoft have sold a dud and it will be the last thing I buy from them.

    55. Raven:

dude i have vista and xp vista sucks and dosent work half ass 2 i hate MAC too now i hate you.

    56. DAM:

I like Vista, it makes my mouse go really slow. Where as in XP my mouse is totally unusable and it frustrated the hell out of me with it moving way too fast.

Best £130 I have ever spent.

    57. Merlinator:

I may very well be a Mac OS/Linux zealot, but thats because I’ve used those operating systems before. Once you’ve worked with those operating systems you’ll be reduced to tears after just one week of windows.
Your 5 reasons are at best invalid. I’ll explain:

“1. Vista haters are probably fanboys (or fangirls) for Macs, Linux or even Windows XP and probably haven’t even tried Vista yet.”
      - I have tried vista. I’ve been forced to use it for a month now and its driving me insane how they could even get the basics of security right. I’m rather convinced that you have never tried Linux or MacOS before, since its unthinkable that someone who knew about those operating systems could possibly prefer Vista

“2. Vista haters just don’t like Bill Gates.”
      – It is true that I don’t like Mr Gates, but I dont hate Vista because I hate Bill Gates. Its the other way around. I hate Bill Gates because I hate the operating systems he has spead.

“3. Vista haters say Vista is too expensive.”
      – The cost doesn’t bug me too much as the company pays for it, but if your going to make people pay for something at least make it worth it. Vista is not. And you ARE forced to buy it. Here in South Africa you can only get a machine without Vista at Dell or Apple, but because of import costs those machines are rediculously expensive. If you need a decent laptop and you dont want to sell your house to get it, you need to go for an Acer or HP which come only with vista.

“4. Vista haters say it was late.”
      - I do not care it was years late. My life would have been beter if it hadn’t come at all

      5. Vista haters are just jealous.
      - Perhaps I am becoming jealous. I also want to have happy pills that make me see only pretty things and be happy with everything, but unfortunately I don’t have the blissfull ignorance because I have been outside the Micrix and I’ve seen what it’s like.
      Therefore:
Vista is the blue pill of ignorance biting you in the —

    58. Andy:

Merlinator, I totally agree with you,
1.I am also annoyed by the fact that you have to buy a PC/Laptop with Vista preinstalled, and then just trow it away (I actualy formated 3 Laptops for my friends that had Vista, and searched for drivers for XP, which are pretty hard to find).
2.I like Bill Gates, I envy him for what he has become and I respect his brilliance in creating the whole Microsoft.

    59. Vincent:

Firstly, the 5 reasons mentioned above are not worth commenting on. That would be stupid.

I’ve tried Vista and I must say I’m not planning to DOWNGRADE my XP SP2/Ubuntu 6 combo for it. XP is halfway to perfect; give it security, fix the problems that causes the numerous BSODs, and remove Autoplay permanently. Boom! Perfect system. Linux and Macs are much better alternatives to Vista. Seems like a good time to try one now, you’ll have to start learning where to find things all over again anyway. (Is microsoft trying to hide options from us or something?) Who thought it a good idea to hide the MENU bar by default in apps like WMP11 and IE7. The MENU BAR guys????

Personally, I’m glad that Vista is so ridiculous, UNIX and Apple will get more support due to the monopoly’s own stupidity and incompetence. (Can anyone confirm that Microsoft has more marketers than programmers for me?) I think fair trading needs to step in especially now, since for the most part, a defective piece of equipment is forced unto a consumer. I hope the manufacturers will take a stand once and for all. BULLSHIT IS BULLSHIT and Vista is just that! Some say Vista is pretty (personally I disagree), but (in any event) when you go on a computer, do you go on to look at pretty or do you go on to get work done? GAME point.

Vista is slower than XP period. That’s the way it is. It’s not debatable. No wait, you’re comparing a fresh install of Vista to your 7 year old install of XP. That’s smart. Even then I think XP will still be faster will less hardware. SET point.

It is a bit unfair to talk about incompatibility and Vista though. XP was the same thing….. No wait, XP had issues because it was new, Vista has problems because it is broken. I personally don’t like where the PC is going, not only Vista, from XP onwards, i.e. Vista style, Office 2007 hiding buttons and stuff, shiny unnecessary bullshit. By the way, who thought it a good idea to put in a 400ms delay when viewing menus, autoplay, and office assistant that doesnt assist but annoys?

Technological advancement means doing more on less power i.e. more efficiently. How can it be acceptable to consume half your resources at idle. *BINGO, that’s what’s causing the world energy crisis. Vista computers wasting power to idle* I wish I had an operating system that booted in 5 secs. and didn’t ask me repetitive questions every action I make. Did it ever occur to them that after a week of using Vista, that when a virus does come in and tries to do something bad the user will just click “ALLOW” without even reading anything since they’ve gotten so used to doing it. So what if you can turn it off, it should not have been there full stop. The 2GB of memory could be put to better use by discovering virii heuristically instead of annoying the hell out of users. MATCH point.

PS DON’T ANYONE DARE COMPARE VISTA TO A VIRUS! VIRII HAVE STEALTHY, COMPACT, AND EFFICIENT CODE, AND ARE WELL MANAGED BY THEIR AUTHORS. I find that people tending to like Vista know nothing of how computers work, and are just voicing an uneducated opinion. I’m a computer programmer and network administrator with some cracking/hacking ability. I think I’m qualified to make these comments.

Go back to sucking Ballmer’s dick, Alex. You’re so much better at that than convincing VistaVictims how good they have.

Me, I hate Vista like the plague. Using it feels like being a tester monkey for an version alpha product. Except that I’m not getting paid for it.

    61. tek:

VISTA NEVER SHOULD HAVE LEFT THE MICROSOFT STABLE.

IT JUST AIN’T A PROFESSIONAL PRODUCT.

    62. Cyberhopper:

I just dont llike vista, i benchmarked it a month ago against XP sp2 and it was trashed badly in terms of speed and memory management.

Heres my comedic response to your “Comedic”
      1. your an idiot, anyone with half a brain knows how much vista sucks, not just the fanboys, but the people who have had experience using it as well! The whole thing is unstable, and crashes more often then previous operating systems released by Microsoft.

      2. your an idiot, bill gates didn’t write the operating system, he has a team specifically for writing windows. Hating bill gates should have no factor in hating windows. i think we should hate the programmers more!

      3. your an idiot, i think i speak for most when i say, if Microsoft were to release a rock solid OS much like mac OS or linux, one that could handle an everyday load (without crashing), people would be willing to pay the price to get it.

      4. your an idiot, it was late because microsoft scraped the entire OS, and restarted the project, then felt rushed to complete the OS, even with its multiple delays. again, they should have spent more time writing the code, and less time worrying about ‘winfs’ which never made it anyway.

      5. your an idiot, i could care less about the people who like it, seeing people using it every day doesn’t make any difference in my book. Let people be ignorant, as long as their happy using it. why the hell would someone be jealous of someone else using software that doesn’t work! its like me being jealous because animals can eat their own shit, so what, they like it, but it doesn’t bother me one bit.

If you cant understand why vista sucks, don’t go posting online with reasons for why it doesn’t, it makes you look like an idiot.

    64. Raluca:

I HATE VISTA AND ALL OF YOUR REASONS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!
I was so happy when we got vista but after a few days you realize it doesn’t work properly! There are so many bugs and errors and the computer isn’t even listening to me anymore!!! I can’t open or access so many things now. It drives me nuts! And honestly, I love the PC and I really used to hate MAC but now, if I had the chance, I would take a mac over any PC with Vista in a split second!

    65. Peter:

OK, after reading over 2 years of posts on this site, I had not 1 valid reason as to why people hate Vista. Most people were havin problems installing their old outdated hardware or software installing in Vista. Well, for all your info, It is based on case per case scenario. Example, every machine in my house runs better, faster and more stable than XP ever did. Network sharing through my Xbox 360 and USB had drives through my 6 year old router works great. Never had a hardware problem or compatibility issue. All my software installes…… only 1 did not work properly but Vista said there was a fix and downloaded it for me, now that software works.

The list can go on and on, but if people are to lazy to get off there behinds to learn or understand how to use vista, they might as well go back to a 9 year old OS. As recall we had the same arguments when XP came out.

Vista is designed for the future, not the past. People should take this into consideration when they choose to upgrade their OS and deem whether they need to actually or not.

Working for a major retailer, we sell only Vista systems. People who complained about it were mainly people who didnt understand it. After 5 minutes showing them, they realise the benefits of what it achieves over XP.

Oh, and for those who complained about windows 7 blue screening… remember, its a BETA, meaning TEST VERSION ONLY ( EXPECT IT ).

Last thing then you can flame me. For those people who have problems with hardware/software with vista, blame the manufactures for that. They had plenty of warning but did nothing about it. Windows 7 driver base is based on Vista but with XML signatures, so you are going to have even more problems. Time to upgrade your stuff to stay up to date with the OS.

KEEP XP ALIVE!! Vista SUCKS, and here’s why: 1) Incompatibility with GOBS of software – or it works but not quite the same, 2) Confirmation prompt after confirmation prompt, 3) Programs magically crash under Vista and not XP, 4) Requirement to seek permission from some mysterious administrator, when – OH WAIT – I AM the administrator!!!, 5) DreamScene makes computer (albeit a darn good one) freeze, 6) Inability to install fonts in bulk, 7) Folder settings resetting on their own CONSTANTLY, 8) Graphics editing programs suddenly can’t handle large images anymore, 9) Printers cannot be found, 10) Difficulty visualizing what folder or files are highlighted in Windows Explorer, 11) Switching between Windows Explorer windows takes forever sometimes, 12) Internet Explorer suddenly doesn’t remember passwords or prompt to save them, 13) Desktop search function takes forever and is too complicated, 14) PDF Printer suddenly doesn’t work, 15) Network connectivity is CONSTANTLY lost, 16) periodic freezes, 17) unexplained freezes on BOOT…need I say more!?!?!?!

    67. Eric:

Haha I found this article entertaining. My response….

      1) I have three computers: 1 running on Windows XP Media Center (2005), one running on Mac OS X 10.5 (2004), and one running on Vista Home (2008). I can easily say the Mac is by far superior, even though it is the oldest. It has the least memory, the least processing power, it even has only single G4 processor! Yet it preforms faster and smoother than the other two. The XP is so-so. It’s days are running down (a result of Microsoft’s lack of ability to make computers last), but it still serves its purpose. The Vista… well it has the most memory and the most processing power, yet it freezes even when performing the easiest of tasks (turning on, for example). I cannot say anything about Linux: never have used it.

      2) “You either like him or you don’t.” Actually, I have no preference.

      3) Um no, Vista is by far cheaper than Mac. However I rather spend my money on somethign that will actually do me good, not just scrap metal awaiting its future in a landfill.

      4) Never thought it was late. In fact, I think it shoudl never have been released.

      5) What’s there to be jealous of?
