Brand new PS3 gets smashed to pieces

By Alex Zaharov-Reutt

Want to see the vide of a brand new PS3 getting smashed? We expected it to happen on launch day, and it did.

First it was the iPod, then an Xbox 360. A PSP has also been smashed into pieces, and now, on launch day, to the horror of PS3 owners-to-be waiting in lines across the country, a PS3 has been smashed into bits in front of a Best Buy crowd.

Here’s where you can visit the SmashmyPS3 website, which links to this video showing you all of the action.

Youll see a PS3 being taken out of its box, held aloft for all in the Best Buy line to see, with camera crews standing by and people with the digital cameras at the ready to take photos, and then the PS3 is dropped to the ground with a thud.

Next up is a tall guy with a massive sledgehammer, and he starts whacking the PS3 harder and harder. After that he jumps on it and then he smashes it some more for good measure.

Bits of shiny black plastic are flying everywhere. Then the camera comes and takes a close look at the PS3, which has its innards exposed and clearly badly damaged.

We see crowd shots with bemused people in the lines, and then theres some commentary as well. The whole thing is finished in two minutes and 51 seconds.

Hours and hours of waiting in the line, but you too can smash your PS3 in less than a minute.

It seems such a shame… but plenty of donors to the SmashmyPS3 website thought otherwise and have paid good money to keep the luddites and the Unabomber happy.

Only in America, as they say! :-)

    2. Alex Zaharov-Reutt:

      Hi Howie,
Am investigating, but I got these links from other MAJOR tech news websites that are, in that case, also sending out a link with a ‘virus’ to all their readers. My Internet Security software has picked up no anomalies or viruses – can you please tell me which virus you have picked up,or what virus is reported by your Internet security software?

      Cheers
      Alex.
