Babble Stick: USB telephone and flash drive

By George Gardner

British web based telephone company Babble has unveiled the Babble Stick, a small USB flash drive with a built in telephone. This is not new technology, but check out its distinct features that makes this product stand out above the rest.

The Babble Stick is a 256MB flash drive, allowing for personal data storage and portable desktop computing; it also features it’s own pre-installed software that loads automatically when inserted into a USB port.

One feature that stands out is the size; the Babble Stick is compact and will fit easily into your pocket, and it doesn’t come with a bulky handset allowing for hands free use without paying extra money for a wireless set.  At a cost of 19.99 GBP, (approx. $37 USD) and free calls to other babble users, the Babble Stick appears to be one of the more affordable options for Internet telephony.

Allan Howes, CEO of Babble, said, “Consumers now have the best cost-effective solution for calling friends and family while away from home.” This product can also be used with the Babble Toolbar, an Internet Explorer plug-in that allows a user to click on a phone number to automatically make a call from their browser.
