PS3 gets closer to PSP, while PSP emulates PS1

By John Pospisil

A new update for Japanese PlayStation Portables (PSP) allows the portable gaming platform to work more closely with the recently released PlayStation 3 next-generation console.

The update (version 3.01) allows PSP users to view and listen to content stored on their PS3 via a wireless connection.

PSP users, can for example, play content music stored on a memory stick through the PSP’s MP3 player. The update also features an improved RSS reader and better support for the optional camera accessory.

And also in Japan, a selection of PS1 games are getting a new lease of life by being available for PSP through an online download service. The games are:

  • Arc The Lad
  • Biohazard Director’s Cut (Resident Evil Director’s Cut)
  • Bishi Bashi Special
  • Jumping Flash
  • Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol. 1
  • Konami Antiques MSX Collection Vol. 2
  • Minna no Golf 2 (Hot Shots Golf 2)
  • Silent Bomber
  • Tekken 2

Apparently you need a Japanese credit card to access these games, so it will be interesting to see whether this download service makes it to the US. Not only would it allow a new generation of PSP gamers to enjoy the classics, but it would allow older gamers to reminisce the good old days.

the beautiful truth is that the PsP can be made to Do anything psx,1,2,3 does – like Gameboy micro.
