Xbox 360s stolen by the truckload

By James Cornelius

The old “there’s something wrong with your truck” ruse has netted thieves more than US$1.4 million of Xbox 360 consoles.

Xbox 360: Now available from English pubs

The truck in question was leaving a distribution depot in Staffordshire England when thieves driving Range Rovers signaled the driver to stop. Thinking that there was something wrong with his truck, the driver stopped and was then attacked by three men.

Fortunately, the driver was not seriously injured. The truck was taken, but was later found dumped, minus its precious cargo, which no doubt is already being sold in pubs around London.

Staffordshire police have asked the public to get in touch if are they offered Xbox 360s in suspicious circumstances.

Interestingly, this is the second such robbery at the depot in about a week, when another shipment of Xbox 360s worth about US$500,000 was stolen.

Martin Meyer, the managing director of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics UK, the company that runs the distribution depot has said that the company is conducting an internal review.

Call me suspicious, but me thinks this was an inside job.
