Problems with Playstation firmware update 1.3
By George Gardner
Sony has released yet another update for their Playstation 3 console, upgrading it to version 1.3. However, problems with the update are leaving gamers upset, who now wish they had never run the update.
Sony had not specified what the update changes, and many PS3 owners downloaded it in the hope that upscaling (720p to 1080i) would finally be available to them. This is not the case.
The new firmware update forces all games to 1080i, except for the ones which were made for 720p. One fix for this problem includes removing the 1080i display option in PS3’s “display settings”; although, when switched, it forces all blu-ray movies and games down to 480p. This is giving many gamers much unneeded hassle; having to switch their display settings between playing games, and watching their movies on blu-ray disc. It was easy before the update, and there is no way to “roll back” to the previous version.
After waiting ten minutes for the update to download, many players were disappointed to find that they no longer were able to join multi-player games in such titles as Untold Legends. There have also been reports of having to reset all PS3 settings due to loosing Internet connections with V1.3.
Phrases like, “please Sony, fix this quick” and “we’ll have to wait till the next firmware update” are scouring message boards and forums across the Internet with the intent to get Sony’s attention in addressing these problems.
Aside from rumors of faster loading times and better video support when browsing the Internet; the idea behind this patch is that the new console will output the highest resolution that your television will support. Additionally, Sony has added a utility to back up your removable media to the Playstation’s hard drive amongst other things.
Fortunately, for those of us who have not updated yet, the update is not automatic; as long as you don’t request to upgrade via the Internet, you may want to hold out until these problems get resolved in 1.31.

I don’t know what everyone is complaining about. I’ve had no issues since the update. In fact, I think it has been operating even faster. Time to get the facts straight.

“due to loosing Internet connections”
Why can’t anyone spell “lose” correctly anymore???
What’s so hard? L-O-S-E. The TV show is “Lost”, not “Loost” after all.
And in a “professional” online source I expect better.
