Line Rider: the new version is here for the holidays!
By George Gardner
The much anticipated new version of Line Rider is now available. TECH.BLORGE.com covered the story a while back, Line Rider: strangely addictive Flash game consuming Internet, and now we’re back with the update!
Yes, the rumors are true, and this is the official new version of line rider; which is by far better than all the rip off, hacked versions available. The creator stayed many steps above the rip off’s providing us with a much better interface and tools to play with.
Here are the latest features in the new version:
Line Tool – Thank heavens for this! Before, it was extremely hard to create straight lines, leaving little bumps and edges which would cause the line rider to wipe out. Those troubles are now over. Thanks to this tool, you can now create straight lines without the worry of those jagged edges left by an unsteady mouse.
Eraser – This is one of the best new features in the game, hands down. If you made 1 mistake in the last game, it was game over, and you would have to restart from the beginning. With the eraser tool, it is now possible to erase those unwanted lines. This will make for much more interesting videos!
Swatches – There are 3 different swatches, which define what types of lines you will draw; Red, Green, and Blue. The blue lines represent regular lines, the green represent scenery, and the red represent acceleration lines! Acceleration lines will speed up your line rider without the need to have a downward slope; this will prove useful in mastering those hard to achieve loops.
Zoom – The zoom tool lets you zoom in and out. This may not seem like it’s that useful, but for anyone who knows and has played the game, this can be great for those large landscapes where you would normally have to move the screen around many many times to scroll from one end of the map to the other.
Flag – The flag tool may seem like a cheat to some, but it is required for creating those hard to master landscapes, and is a major time saver for larger maps. When in simulation mode (play), you can click on the flag tool to create a “save” in the game to save your current position. Later, when in editing mode, you can click the flag tool again to have the line rider start out where the flag was originally set. For the hard to master jumps and ramps, you can use the flag tool while your line rider is in mid-air, then return to the editing screen to create a landing for him at the precise point where the flag is located.
We have been waiting for this update for quite some time now, and have been forced to be very patient. Shame on the few who played the “hacked” versions of this game.
As if this news wasn’t exciting enough, inXile entertainment announced that they will be releasing a mini “toy” line rider, and prepare yourself for this, will soon be available for both the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii!
