Colorful iPod shuffles make a fashion statement
By John Pospisil
As if we needed more evidence that the iPod media players are as much about fashion as they are about technology, Apple has announced that the iPod shuffle will be available in five colors: blue, pink, green, orange and the original silver.

Released three months ago, the new iPod shuffle is just half a cubic inch in volume, weighs just half an ounce and features a aluminum design with a built-in clip.
“iPod shuffle is the world’s most wearable digital music player,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPod Product Marketing.
“Music fans can now choose iPod shuffle in one of five brilliant colors, or they can buy one of each.”
Err, yes, of course, music fans will buy “one of each”… like who wouldn’t buy the same low-spec iPod five times, when they could just go ahead and buy a regular iPod?
The iPod shuffle has up to 12 hours of battery life. It’s basically very minimalist (some would say cost-reduced) iPod, that lets users “shuffle” their songs to listen to them in a random order or simply flip a switch to listen to their songs in order.
The iPod shuffle contains one gigabyte of flash memory, which holds up to 240 songs and is available in all five colors for just $79 each. iPod shuffle includes an iPod shuffle dock and earbuds.
The iPod shuffle works with both PC and Mac via the included dock.
Integration with iTunes 7 and the iTunes allows shuffle customers to choose and buy music from a selection of over four million songs at the iTunes Store.
I’ve never really quite gotten my mind around the “shuffle” concept, but evidentially there’s a market out there for people who like listening to music in a random order. That, or people just like the idea of a relatively cheap iPod.
