January 31, 2007

Sony has released a new firmware upgrade, version 3.10, for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). But even as PSP owners are finding out about the upgrade, it’s already been decrypted, and apparently “customized” hacked versions are not too far away.

The new firmware upgrade offers better Internet browsing and improved audio.

The upgrade also allows PSP 3 owners to download game demos onto their machine via the Internet, or transfer downloaded game demos from their PC.Killzone: Liberation is one of the first demos available.

PSP Updates reports that the new firmware was decrypted in day zero by “Team C+D”, and that now a group of coders will “turn this firmware on its head”.

Team C+D proudly proclaim that “Sony lost another battle and will loose the war” and that “This proves now that we are serious, decrypted their IPL and can get the keys anytime. It is no use to update them”.

PSP Updates expects that new “custom” firmware developed by hackers will be available real soon.

The 3.10 Firmware Decrypter is available from the PSP Updates web site.
