GTA? – please – you’ve got nothing on Manhunt
By George Gardner
I’m a believer in Rockstar Games. No other corporation has been able to dish out more controversial and exciting games that are just plain fun; they have never let me down. Both my stock broker and I were very pleased to hear that Rockstar will be releasing the sequel to Manhunt this summer; and I can surely promise you that Manhunt 2 will put Grand Theft Auto to shame.
Manhunt has the worst language I’ve ever heard in any game, hands down. The game is extremely violent, requiring the player to kill people just for the hell of it; it’s an art. The object is to achieve a maximum score by performing the most gruesome kills with makeshift weapons such as a meat cleaver or shard of glass. You must be stealthy; for if you’re caught, your heart will be beating out of your chest while your running from 3 to 10 angry junkyard giants that will literately beat the life out of you mob style.
“With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward,” said Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games. This is the key to a successful sequel!
While the original Manhunt was extremely popular, it somehow missed the spotlight that Rockstar’s GTA had ventured through, and for no good reason at all. The game was genius; it was simplicity at its best. From the moment I laid my hands on it, I was amazed at the small amount of attention it had received.
Rockstar feels the same way; and they’re planning on giving Manhunt another go. Manhunt 2 will be released by Multiple Rockstar studios for the Wii, Playstation 2, and PSP gaming consoles this Summer. The PS2 and PSP versions will be released by the infamous Rockstar North and the newbies at Rockstar London.
One of the most surprising aspects of Rockstar’s release of Manhunt 2 is its availability for the Nintendo Wii. Manhunt 2 for the Wii is being created by the Canadian, Rockstar Toronto. There have been no reports as to whether the violent content will be dumbed down for the Wii version; although, I certainly can’t imagine a large man with a smiley face mask being decapitated by a plastic bag on the Nintendo. The parents are going to love this one.
