Oscar launch of Apple iPhone (commercial)

By John Pospisil

Surprise Oscar launch of Apple iPhone (commercial)Apple has launched its first iPhone commercial during the television coverage of the Oscars. The iPhone is scheduled for launch in June.

The commercial shows a series of short clips of well-known actors from well-known movies answering the phone (no, not the iPhone) and saying “hello”. The actors include everyone from  to Jerry Lewis to Robert DeNiro to Samuel Jackson to Mr Incredible – to name just a few.

The commercial ends with an iPhone appearing, followed by the words “Hello” and “Coming in June”, and closing with an Apple logo.

The movie can be seen here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/hello/

Actually, it’s a quite a boring commercial. It was obviously made to be screened during the Oscars, and while you can happily watch it once, it just doesn’t have the same cool/funny factor of the “Get a Mac ads”.

I guess “Get an iPhone” doesn’t quite work.

I think the best way for them to market it would be as a video iPod/PDA that has cellular features (wireless phone & internet service) That way the price tag would be closer to what people would want to pay. But to market it solely as a smart cellphone (at a premium price) makes it less-comparable to what people are used to paying for cellphones.

the long awaited iphone date is approaching rapidly
