BitTorrent will be rolling out a new service in the near future that will offer paid downloads of more than 5,000 titles including movies, television shows, games, and similar media. From a profit perspective, this may sound like a wonderful idea; however, from a user’s perspective, it will certainly be the end of BitTorrent as we know it.

The PGA’s tour player Fuzzy Zoeller is on the hunt yet again; this time his target is not The Master’s Cup or the U.S. Open, it is the anonymous author of a “defamatory” post about the senior golfer on Wikipedia, one of the largest unofficial encyclopedias on the web.

Imagine this; you access the Internet from your mobile phone, and use a third party application (Skype) to make phone calls without burning up your costly minutes. It may seem like a dream that will never come true, but Skype is looking to apply a 1968 ruling by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to free the country’s mobile phone industry; this would allow the use of third party applications and unlock all the mobile carrier restrictions.

Linux is what people want preinstalled their new notebook PC, according to feedback on Dell’s new IdeasStorm site, where visitors are encouraged to make suggestions about future products. This raises the question: has the site has already been taken over by fanboys?

A recent study by market research company Compete Inc has confirmed strong consumer interest in the upcoming iPhone from Apple, although not at the planned price of US$500. The survey found that the “sweet spot” appears to be closer to US$200.

At the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) on January 7, Microsoft announced a solution that would bring together the Xbox 360 gaming console and the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform; now, It is being reported that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 running as an IPTV box will be demonstrated in London for the first time in Europe on March 5th.

IBM guarantees its products will work with Red Hat’s version of Linux; although, they are being very cautious in adopting support for Oracle Corporation’s Unbreakable Linux, despite the fact that Oracle’s distribution is a mere clone.

Not content with delaying the launch of the PAL version of the PlayStation 3 (PS3) by three months and charging a premium for it, Sony executives have decided to make the PAL PS3 inferior to the version of the PS3 launched in the US and Japan.

Digital Rights Management is not necessary for copyright holders to prevent unauthorized copies of their work; it is just a tool used to keep good people honest, and is, in fact, driving us to illegal methods. The fact remains that pirates can and will always be able to find a way around any copyright protection. So who’s getting punished here?

Cyfswatch, a blog dedicated to attacking the New Zealand Government’s Child Youth and Family Service (CYFS), was hosted by Google’s free blogging service, Blogger.

There are now 4 significant dates in the history of VHS: September 1976 - the VHS tape was launched, June 2003 – the DVD became more popular, November 2006 – the Motion Picture Association of America announced commercial films will no longer be released on VHS, and now, February 2007 – Wal-mart abandons the VHS as the last movies leave the shelves.

The battle over the iPhone name has come to a resolution, with Cisco and Apple settling the trademark dispute by agreeing to work together. This rather bizarre and amicable settlement has fanned speculation that perhaps there was more to this dispute than meets the eye.
