Apple has issued a security update, as well as released Mac OS X 10.4.9, to plug multiple security holes in both client and server versions of Mac OS X for PowerPC and Intel-based Macs. The updates are available for download from Apple Downloads Web page and also via the Software Update component of the system preference pane.
Apple describes the release as: “Recommended for PowerPC and Intel-based Mac computers currently running Mac OS X Tiger version 10.4.8.”
A host of improvements are described in the notes accompanying the release. Specific changes include font handling; mouse scrolling and keyboard shortcuts; improvements to raw camera file support; image capture performance; handling of large or malformed images that could cause crashes; playback quality and bookmarks in DVD player; USB video conferencing cameras for use with iChat; Bluetooth devices; Windows-created digital certificates; Apple USB model;security updates and etc.
In related news, Apple also released iPhoto 6.0.6, which only claims to address “issues associated with EXIF data compatibility and Photocasting.” The photocasting fix is in response to another Month of Apple Bugs report. The Photocasts feature allows people to share pictures in iPhoto.
Tuesday’s two releases bring Apple’s total patch count for the year to seven.

I am waiting for 10.5 to be released before I buy my next MacBook… Lord knows if I get one now, I’d have to shell out $100 for an upgrade.

No joke; wish I’d had the willpower to wait for the next one, but I don’t mind. Say, have you had any problem with your LCD flickering at all?
