Why doesn’t Dell just ask the Linux vendors what they are using?

We have seen a very enthusiastic response to our Linux Survey – thank you to the community. If anyone has had issues completing the survey, please try again – we’ve beefed up resources to handle the overwhelming response. We have also seen one of the most active discussions on our Direct2Dell company blog. We are running the survey through March 23 and we will give an update on Linux program in the coming weeks. Again, we do need time to incorporate the community’s feedback in our product planning process.

I just want to clarify a one thing. We have not been "swaying back and forth." Our Feb. 23 post to IdeaStorm regarding Linux (found here: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/ideastorm/ideasinaction?c=us&l=en&s=gen) said that we had completed work with Novell to certify OptiPlex and Latitude systems on SLED 10. We saw this as a positive step to giving customers a positive experience with Linux. There were some erroneous reports that we would begin factory installation and we corrected several of those. We are taking positive steps towards Linux on Dell desktops and notebooks and look forward to giving the community an update in the coming weeks.
