Google Maps now features 360 degree Street View

By George Gardner

Google Maps now features 360 degree Street View Check out this cool new feature on Google Maps! It’s called Street View. It’s basically a massive collection of images, from select cities in the U.S., in which a user can view a 360 degree panoramic image from any street supported in Google Maps.

O.k., so there’s only 5 cities that are currently supported by this new feature, but there is certainly more to come. For now, if you visit Google Maps, you can see street level views of most populated areas in Las Vegas, NV (as shown); Miami, FL; Denver, CO; New York, NY; and San Francisco, CA.

Clicking on the new “Street View” button, at the top of the map, reveals a dark blue hue over the streets that have viewable panoramic images associated with them. Simply zooming in on any street corner and “double-clicking” it will reveal an image of that exact location.

All images have embedded lines which allow you to view the direction (north, south, etc,…), all while being able to zoom the camera and rotate it in a 360 degree view. A useful feature? maybe not; but it’s certainly worth checking out.
