Dell cuts 10% of employees; all of India mourns unemployment spike
By Triston McIntyre
If you’ve ever been unfortunate enough to own a Dell and need customer support, you will immediately catch on to the above joke. Dell has announced that they will be letting around 8,800 employees find new employment as part of the revamping process begun by Michael Dell as of late. Can the personnel cut bring Dell back to the top of the computer building business?
Michael Dell has been struggling to get his once-strong company back on track since his return to the helm this January; the road has been bumpy, to say the least, but many think significant improvements have been made.
Things must be working to some degree; company shares went up 5.9%, and Dell netted a profit of $759 million.
Unfortunately, that still puts them directly in the backseat behind their long-time enemy HP (oh, those villainous dogs!). If anyone can rescue Dell from the evil empire that HP has established, it is Michael.
How’s he planning on doing this? First of all, selling the bargain-priced computers outside of the internet in large retailers including WalMart (isn’t it cute when young and old tyrannical corporations can work together for the bettering of…themselves?)
If you ask me, the best way to turn a tumbling company around is a good ole’ dose of America; I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to deal with someone from a faraway country who does not speak proper and clear English, and does not care, when I only need a new hard drive sent out to replace the defective one that made my computer so inexpensive in the first place!
Mike, buddy: take some of that profit you’re now pulling in and give a few diction and pronunciation classes, and I can assure you, your users will return.
