Mobilecast and Nissan develop iPod Bluetooth Transmitter for Cars
Mobilecast, a wireless solutions provider, has teamed up with Nissan to develop and market an iPod Bluetooth transmitter that is compatible with Nissan’s HDD car navigation system.
The Bluetooth protocol connects the HDD navigation system with an iPod wirelessly. Users no longer need to bother with leads and can place the iPod anywhere in the car. Additionally, the iPod Bluetooth transmitter can be used like a remote control, so that the user can select their favorite tunes.
Mobilecast said that iPod Bluetooth Transmitter offers significant benefits over a conventional iPod Bluetooth Transmitter:
“While the conventional iPod Bluetooth Transmitter only had the Page function, this device has greatly improved connectivity with car navigation due to optimization of Page/Page Scan repeat time.”
The joint development of the iPod Bluetooth Transmitter allowed some technical advancement, including seamless switching with Bluetooth hands-free (HF) communication and Bluetooth data communications (DUN).
This collaboratively developed product, however, has one serious draw back. The device may not operate when used in combination with products from other companies. While this might mean that sales are unlikely to be significant, for Nissan, the device will still add value to the company’s existing product line.
