US Army refuses to recruit Mac users
By Jonathan Schlaffer
It seems that the US army isn’t at all interested in having Mac users join its ranks. When visiting the site in some browsers on a Mac (it works in Safari and Netscape) the GoArmy site may not load and the following page is displayed.
Let’s analyze that shall we. Internet Explorer for Mac has been discontinued and I can’t find version 5 or 5.5 download for Mac anywhere. That’s problem number one, the site doesn’t recognize you are on Mac OS, any smart site should know that.

The only option available here is to download Netscape 9.0 Beta for Mac which is based on Firefox 2.0, most extensions that work in Firefox 2.0 will work in Netscape 9.0. Themes, however, will not as they must be designed to work with Netscape 9.0.
Netscape 9.0 includes all the features of Firefox 2.0 and then some, it is now my browser of choice for Mac. I just needed something so my extensions would work and Firefox on Mac is a sluggish beast that I cannot recommend at this time.
Now I have a question rattling around in my head, how many soldiers out there in any armed service use a Mac? I’m guessing it’s a very small minority as is the case with Macs in the general population but I’d be curious to know if some soldiers do indeed use Macs.
Or is it the army shuns individual thinking and forces all in its ranks to use Windows. So much so that those who would want to, can’t use a Mac, I doubt it.

It’s supposed to be, only you didn’t get the joke. If you took this seriously, I feel bad for you.

God you’re pathetic. And then, “I was only joking.” Sheesh.

And yet it works fine with Linux and Firefox.

Have you tried accessing the site with Safari? I just went to “goarmy.com” from a MacBook Pro and had absolutely no problem. I clicked a bunch of the sidebars and links etc. Works perfectly. Looks like it might be a Netscape problem…
