Michigan couple finds baby on MySpace
By Ruben Francia
A Michigan couple raising three boys is in search for a baby girl. They posted their plea on social networking site, MySpace.com less than two months ago and now, they say they’ve found an expectant mother who is willing to let them adopt her baby.
An unidentified Detroit-area woman verbally agreed to give them her daughter upon her birth in July, the couple said. The couple declined to describe the woman at length, citing privacy concerns.
The deal has not yet been finalized legally but the couple’s next step is to contact an agency to arrange the adoption.
Sherry and Karl Dittmar first posted their request for a baby girl on MySpace in April. The couple made the decision to post after years of unsuccessful attempts at conception and delays in becoming state-registered foster parents.
“If there is a mother kind-of on the fence between abortion and adoption, perhaps seeing our page and knowing there are families out there that are looking will steer her toward an adoption,” Karl Dittmar told Local 4 when the station first aired their story.
“It (MySpace) does work,” said Sherry. Within days of their posting, the family had more than 30,000 page views, Detnews reported. It seems the overwhelming response by the community attracted the attention of the mother who has offered her baby for adoption.
