Playboy Island finds home in Second Life

June 12, 2007

Playboy finds home in second LifeSecond Life residents can now get a taste of Playboy living as a rabbit head-shaped island, known as Playboy Island, will be host to a flavor of events and social opportunities.

Playboy Island will house its new virtual store, in which, loosely dressed female avatar employees will prance around wearing (but not limited to) Playboy apparel and, of course, the esteemed Playboy Bunny costume.

”We are excited to bring the Playboy brand to the world of Second Life,” said Jeremy Westin, executive vice president, business development, Playboy Media Group.

The virtual store will feature merchandise from its Internet sites, PlayboyStore.com and ShoptheBunny.com, and will allow residents to purchase apparel for either their first or Second Life avatars.

“Just as Playboy is expanding its brand in the real world with the Playboy Club in Las Vegas and retail stores across the globe, entering Second Life is a great way for Playboy to leverage its brand in the virtual world in a fun and innovative setting,” added Westin.

Playboy Island’s beachfront property will function as a social medium, allowing residents to interact; play your cards right and you may be ‘interacting’ on the top floor of the virtual store, the Video Lounge.

The Playboy Island launch party is set for June 12-13 and invites all Second Life residents to watch performances by in-world music artists and  and simply enjoy the rabbit head-shaped island, created and maintained by Sentient Services.
