Google Video adopts 3rd party content

Google Video now has more to offer than just Google and YouTube videos; holding true to a plan announced in January, Google Video now includes content from third-party sites, as it has become a comprehensive video service that offers media, captured from the deepest corners of the Internet.
“Now we’re including videos from all over the web, which we’ve gathered using a process similar to how we generate our Web Search results. We have a lot of new videos now, and more will be added as we continue to crawl the web,” said Google spokesman, Paul, in the Google Video Group.
Aside from introducing new content, Google Video has a new user-interface for playback of videos. When you click on a video search result, the video is loaded in a frame (similar to Google Images) with a Google Video menu that remains in the top frame.
The video menu shows thumbnails of related videos, an ‘e-mail this page’ link, and a search box in the upper left hand corner. For those who dislike frames, there is a link to remove frames; although, at this moment, it is currently broken.
The mega-muscle algorithm used to search videos on the Internet, combined with Google Image, Web, News, and various other niche-searches, puts Google in pretty position for attracting next generation searchers.
“Now we’ve made even more progress towards realizing that vision. On Google Video, users will now be able to watch videos from various websites via a web crawl,” said Google spokesman, Gabriel Stricker, as reported by searchenginewatch.com. ”For those videos which were not uploaded to YouTube or Google, users will be able to see a thumbnail image of that video and then have the ability to be redirected to where the video is hosted in order to watch it in its entirety.”
I personally enjoyed Google Video prior to the YouTube integration. Google Video was a well respected site loaded with 30+ minute educational videos; but who can argue? Google knows it better just stick to what it does best – crawl the web.
