Million Dollar Website pays big for college student
Graham Langdon, a student at the University of Connecticut, has dreamed up and implemented a plan to make one million dollars through his new website, MillionDollarWiki.com.
Million Dollar Wiki is similar to Wikipedia; however, each page can only be edited by its owner at the cost of $100 per page. Langdon says his goal is to sell 10,000 pages to achieve one million dollars.
The purpose of Million Dollar Wiki is to help pay off Langdon’s enormous college debt; extra money earned will then go towards his dream of owning “the best bar in the known world.”
“Its quite simple,” said Langdon, the twenty-one year old founder. “Once you own a page, you can use it how you like and no one else can touch it. I think people are rushing to buy pages because they realize that once a page is purchased, that’s it. It’s no longer available. If someone wants to own the ‘Music’ page, they have to buy it before anyone else does.”
Has Langdon found a formula for success? The wiki has already sold 26 pages; of which, the most recently sold were Social Networking, Internet Marketing, Alarm, Security, and Newswire.
Owners of pages are also encouraged to purchase pages for re-sale later; someone may be willing to pay several hundred, or even thousands, for a page that boasts a popular keyword such as Internet or Music.
Langdon added: “No one has ever done this before. It kind of reminds me of the dot-com craze to purchase premium domain names. Everyone wants to buy the good pages before someone else does.”
After making $2600 in just a little over one week, Langdon optimistically expects he will reach the one million dollar mark in only a few short months.
*Update: The “business” page for the Million Dollar Wiki has just sold for US $6,100 on Ebay
