Sony Ericsson: 5MP K850 Cyber-shot "viable digital camera alternative"
By John Pospisil
Sony Ericsson has announced a 5 megapixel Cyber-shot phone, that it says packs state-of-the-art digital camera features into a slim-design mobile phone.
It seems that mobile phone manufacturers are finally starting to realize that consumers want more than 1990’s style 1.3 megapixel resolution from their camera phones.
Sony Ericsson President, Miles Flint, said the new K850 Cyber-shot was a “viable digital camera alternative”.
The K850 is a Tri-Band HSDPA and Quad-Band GPRS/EDGE phone, which will be available in either Velvet Blue or Luminous Green.
As a camera, the K850 includes auto focus, a xenon flash, and features like BestPic, Photo fix and PictBridge. It also features a 2.2” crystal bright display.
Picture blogging and video blogging allows users to upload images and footage at HSDPA speeds to blogsites.
A new media browser puts all stored media, whether photos, video, music or podcasts, in one place. Media can be scrolled, sorted and accessed from a single point in the menu.
The K850 allows users to carry out an intelligent search to see photos by the month they were taken, view thumbnail images or scroll through in full-picture mode.
The K850 will be available in selected markets late this year.
