Manhunt 2 may still have a chance in US
By George Gardner
Following the recent decision from the British Board of Film Classification to ban Rockstar Games’ upcoming Manhunt 2 video game, the ESRB has given the disturbingly-violent video game a preliminary rating of adults only (AO). Sony and Nintendo will have nothing to do with the game if the rating succeeds.
Manhunt 2’s AO rating is only preliminary, and could change depending on how Rockstar chooses to go forward with the boards decision. If the rating does stick, however, both Sony and Nintendo have confirmed that the game will not be distributed for their systems.
ESRB, stuck in a war between Rockstar Games, Sony, and Nintendo, noted that Rockstar has the option to appeal, or change the content of the game and resubmit it for a mature (M) rating; either way, we probably won’t be getting our hands on Manhunt 2 on the scheduled July 10th release date.
As for Sony and Nintendo, they’re dead in my book; now may be a good time for Rockstar to contact Microsoft about releasing a Manhunt 2 for the Xbox 360.
I certainly don’t want to play a hacked up version of Manhunt 2, especially knowing that there was once a better version. Do you think Nintendo and Sony are acting too harsh? Does anyone really care if you have to be 18 instead of 17 to purchase a video game?
