YouTube signs deal with 20-year-old’s dating show
By David Cassel
A 20-year-old New Yorker just signed a revenue-sharing deal with YouTube. But it’s a highly symbolic deal — both for 20-year-old Brandon Fletcher, and the future of YouTube.
In April Brandon flew from New York to Silicon Valley, vowing he’d storm YouTube’s headquarters in San Bruno, California and demand that they hear his idea for a video show. He even created a video blog called Can YouTube Hear Me?, creating an inspiring testimonial about the power of persistence and self-confidence.
But ultimately his mission wasn’t accomplished. He met a few YouTube staffers informally, but a security guard refused to let him off the elevator, and eventually Brandon flew back to New York. Undaunted, he went ahead and unveiled his video channel — a reality show about online dating.
This week it was revealed that YouTube had given Brandon a revenue-sharing deal. YouTube’s CEO said in January that they’d originally wanted their users to be motivated by a love of videos — and not money. But they’d since come to realize that they’d get some better videos from their users if they let them share some of YouTube’s advertising revenues.
There have been a lot of questions about how YouTube would implement this revenue-sharing deal. But Brandon’s story seems to show good news. Apparently YouTube’s money won’t be limited to just the big-media video producers like the major motion picture and television producers.
YouTube will also share some of its money with 20-year-olds who have big dreams.

YouTube is great, and it has been working much better after Google became owner.

This guy sounds like a spoiled jackass. If Youtube thinks this will increase the quality of submissions, they haven’t accounted for the increased percentage of utter crap that’s going to get uploaded by people trying to make money.

Just make your own web site and inbed the links into the videos.

How is this news? HappySlip, Boh3m3, TheHill88, Nalts are not major motion picture and television producers, yet they’re all part of the YouTube partnership program.

its all about ideas, and guess Youtube was not very open… Also sharing could mean he will get 2 percent, to vague.

Lucky kid! Kudos to him too.

Are they just going to use Adsense like they do for Blogger?

Hm…either the kid has an amazing idea, or else YouTube are the worst business negotiators on the planet. :)

Yeah Brandon !
Thomas Edison said “Success was 10% Inspiration and 90% Perspiration” …
Brandon is not Lucky… Brandon has what we all need to succeed online. Ive been marketing online since 1994 and I can tell you in the Internet world today…. it takes a little more than 10% inspiration…. I don’t know the % but apparently Brandon had it going on but it took a large dose of perspiration and raw guts to do something about his vision. That leads me to another quote I like…
“you’re not just dreaming if you re doing it ” that’s what it takes for web success today .

Let’s give him credit for doing what some people only dream of - he had guts to do what he set out to do! Kudos are in order!
