iTunes subscribers get red carpet treatment for iPhone activation

By George Gardner

iTunes subscribers get red carpet treatment for iPhone activation Anyone who pays $500-$600 for an iPhone should certainly expect ‘royal’ treatment; however, Apple is making activation of the iPhone, without an iTunes subscription, extremely difficult.

“Users will be able to activate their new iPhone in the comfort and privacy of their own home or office, without having to wait in a store while their phone is activated,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.

Apple is requiring those who do not wish to download the iTunes software and provide a major credit card to “wait in a store while their phone is activated.”

Meanwhile, iTunes subscribers can activate their iPhone using the iTunes software “in the comfort and privacy of their own home or office.”

Using the iTunes software, users can choose their service plan, authorize their credit, and activate their iPhone in minutes; which, is a beautiful feature for iTunes subscribers, but the system is flawed for those who choose not to support Apple’s own media marketing iTunes.

It’s offensive for Apple to play the incentive card on a phone with such an expensive price; no one should ever be pressured into extrinsic iPhone features for the sake of convenience.

omg George get a grip how many people who don’t already have iTunes are gonna buy the frickin iPhone??

    2. George Gardner:

Rip the music, burn the music, do what you have to do, but who needs iTunes to play music on an iPhone?

    3. Wolf:

      Hint: Install, activate, uninstall.

    4. KellyC:

I’m with the others – I see no problem with this plan… You do know that what you are buying is more of a video Ipod that happens to also be a phone and web browser, right? Itunes comes first.
