Apple sells 500,000 iPhones over weekend
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Being one of the most anticipated products this year, Apple managed to sell 500,000 of its highly coveted and desired iPhones. Despite initial problems with the units, screens sensitive to cracking and activation problems, the iPhone is a hit.
It’s doubtful any other product with these problems could have sold that many units but Apple managed to pull it off through carefully planned ad campaigns, announcements and the many keynotes that Steve Jobs gave, playing up the iPhone in almost all of them.
According to various analysts sales for the iPhone appear to be right around 525,000 units sold at both AT&T and Apple stores. At the time of the report 59 of 162 Apple stores were sold out of the iPhone.
If you want an iPhone, now is the time to check your local Apple Store for stock, if it is in stock, get in your car and drive over to it, right now, don’t wait. The rest of the stores that do still have the iPhone probably won’t have it for long.
You can only check iPhone stock after 9 p.m. because according to Apple:
“1. Check iPhone availability after 9:00 p.m. the night before you would like to buy an iPhone. iPhones arrive most days and availability is updated nightly.
2. iPhone sales start at 9:00 a.m. Be sure to get in line early as quantities are limited.
3. First come, first served.”
If the Apple store closest to you, does not have the iPhone in stock there are plenty of people on eBay selling the iPhone for an exorbitant amount of money, you could almost call it extortion.
