Dangerous Botnet threatens online iPhone buyers

By Triston McIntyre

Dangerous Botnet threatens online iPhone buyersThough many have found purchases of the iPhone online to be less painstaking than driving around to your local Apple or AT&T retail locations, this might sway you into shelling out the gas money: for PC users, there is a botnet exploit being used to reroute infected PCs and their users to a replica iPhone retailing site that will take them for all they’re worth.

There are more than 7500 computers that are unknowingly infected by the “Aiphone.A bot trojan”, according to Panda Labs security which just today released their findings.

Any user who attempts to make an online purchase of the iPhone will be misguided to the replica site, and will unwittingly be handing over their credit or banking information to internet thieves.

The bot doesn’t stop there; it will create popups and advertisements in the users’ browsers that advertise the iPhone and link to the malicious page.

“This is one of the most sophisticated attacks we have seen targeting a user community, in this case iPhone users.  It is a really complex, dangerous attack that combines elements of malware, phishing, and even adware,” according to Luis Corrons, Panda Labs Technical Director.

As this attack is new, all users interested in purchasing an iPhone online should immediately visit this site to perform a free system scan for this most recent malware : infectedornot.com.

    1. Internet User:

Just once, I would like to see an article like this mention that Linux users are immune. Not even the website you promote seems to be able to tell that I cannot be infected because I don’t use Windows. These “viruses” should really be called “Windows exploits”.
