Some iPhone displays powered by Windows

By Jonathan Schlaffer

iphonexp All those gigantic iPhone displays in AT&T stores are powered by Windows XP based computers, some of which are provided by Dell.  I don’t think it would have taken much effort on the part of Apple to set up Macs to run the displays for AT&T but I guess it was easier to use Windows.

At one AT&T store you can see clear as day, the Windows XP loading screen.  So much for Mac OSX powering Apple’s product displays.

There are several probable causes for this, the display was just turned on for the store opening, the computer applied some patches and required a reboot (though why a display unit would need patches is beyond me) or it just crashed.  All of those reasons could apply and we’ll never know for certain which it is.

It seems that Apple stores use Macs to power the iPhone displays but that varies from store to store.  It’s still funny to see an Apple product being advertised through the use of a Microsoft product.

No one has cried “photoshop” yet but I wouldn’t rule that out.  By the same token, you can still see reflections in the display unit so it’s not likely this is a photoshop job but does not mean that the possibility still doesn’t exist.
