AT&T: No one wants $10 DSL plans
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Either companies have been disconnected from their customers in recent years or they were never connected with them in the first place. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson denies the fact that the plan is hidden on the company’s website and says no one wants the plan.
Let’s take a step back in time to the Sony NW-HD5 audio player, a great device for its time but no one wanted it, it didn’t sell well, not because the product was bad but because Sony failed to market it (though, why remains a mystery). My guess is that AT&T isn’t marketing the $10 DSL plan, not because people don’t want it but because it doesn’t make much money from such a plan or the profit margin is narrower.
Not that everyone will have to hunt for it but one man’s story says otherwise which is so not worth it, just go the easy route and sign up for a more expensive plan, if you must go with AT&T.
AJC spoke with Stephenson and when asked “A lot of folks said they couldn’t find it [the $10 DSL plan]. It was hard to find on your site. Why?”
He responded by saying, “We haven’t made it difficult to find. To be honest with you, that’s not a product that our customers have clamored for. We still have $15 offers out there in the marketplace, even $20 offers, for 1.5 megabit speeds. Those are really kind of the minimum speeds that give a good user experience. So I don’t want to necessarily offer up a product where the user experience is not what I would consider really state of the art. That $10 product is kind of in that mode.”
It just might be a little difficult to want something that can’t be found. It’s still not terribly easy to find as the plan currently lists for $19 per month but after entering your phone number and checking for availability, at this step, the $10 plan should be shown.
Sure, you might be able to find it and then you might not and that’s only if it’s offered in your area, AT&T does not appear to be offering the $10 plan in all areas, at this time.
