I actually own one and it is amazing in my opinion. The Macbook Pro was recently updated with LED backlighting (which means a brighter screen and longer battery life), 2GB stock RAM, and some pretty nice Nvidia graphics card options. It is definitely worth the extra money, it's portable, and they were designed for stuff like photo and video editing. The new iMac, which I just bought but haven't set up yet, is also an amzing machine as well. It's obviously a cheaper offering but I would recommend you upgrade the RAM to at least 2GB if you're going to use this for photo or video editing. The iMac's graphics card option is a little on the weaker side but is enough for occasional gaming and definitely gets the job done for practically anything else (within reason). In the end, I still recommend you go for the Macbook Pro as it was recently updated with some really nice options, it's just about as powerful if not more powerful than the new iMac, and it''s a portable machine. If you'd like a bigger monitor, I would suggest you buy yourself an external, extra monitor to give you some more room when you're at home for that video and photo editing.
